The Iron Giant (Special Edition)The Iron Giant (Special Edition)
Buy new: $5.49 / Used from: $1.98
We just rented this movie the other night; it was the first time any of us have watched it. My son has already watched this at least a dozen times. (Not too happy about that much time in front of the TV, but it's a great story.) It's his new favorite robot movie.
Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $4.96
This is a favorite with everyone. My son gets the benefit of CGI, while my husband and I can take a trip down memory lane to the Transformer cartoons of the 80s. If you are a die-hard Transformers fan, you might also want to look for the original animated Transformers movie.
Terminator 2 - Judgment Day (Extreme DVD)Terminator 2 - Judgment Day (Extreme DVD)
Buy used from: $1.26
My son likes this one best out of the Terminator trilogy because it shows two different kinds of artificial life forms: the traditional terminator, and the liquid terminator.
Wall-E (Single-Disc Edition)Wall-E (Single-Disc Edition)
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $8.48
We loved this movie so much, we saw it several times in the theater. I thought it was funny how people got fat from being waited on by robots all the time. Both my husband and my son thought this movie was hysterical. We all enjoyed watching WallE and the other reject robots trying to help the humans get back to earth.
Iron Man (Two-Disc Special Collectors' Edition)Iron Man (Two-Disc Special Collectors' Edition)
Buy new: $22.99 / Used from: $5.89
Okay, granted he isn't exactly a robot, but since Iron Man looks like a robot, he's my son's new favorite superhero (sorry, Spidey). It goes without saying that he went crazy over the scene where the two characters fight in the robotic suits. My husband thought they did a good job of sticking to the storyline of the comic book.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2 Disc Special Edition)Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2 Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $6.04
This is another movie that isn't exactly about robots, but we are all huge Star Wars fans...and my son thinks Darth Vader and the stormtroopers look like robots. This movie does a good job of filling in the timeline between the live action movies, and explaining some background of various characters.
Robots (Widescreen Edition)Robots (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.38
I love this one for sentimental reasons -- it came out when I was pregnant with my son. My husband and I couldn't wait for our son to be old enough to watch this movie with us. Unlike other movies about robots coming to earth, this movie takes place in a robot world. It's a great story about making the best of what you have been given in life.

The special effects will seem cheesy to most adults, but if your kids haven't been too exposed to CGI, they will probably get a kick out of this movie. In this case, my son thought it was great that they showed baby robots being "born."

Another oldie but goodie. Once again, it's hard to adjust to the special effects of yesterday, but it's still a good story that the whole family can enjoy. Children will love the silly robot.
I, Robot (Widescreen Edition)I, Robot (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $1.33
I read this book when I was in junior high school, so I was very excited to see the movie. I wasn't disappointed at all. Will Smith is a great actor, and since the plot is based around a robot factory, you get your fill. My son's favorite part in this movie was when the old robots fought against the new models.
War of the Worlds (Widescreen Edition)War of the Worlds (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.21
I think this movie might have done better in the theaters, if Tom Cruise hadn't flipped out on Oprah's couch. Anyway, everyone in our family enjoys this one. I thought it was a good version of the book. I also saw the original (from my mom's generation), which is still worth checking out. Even though they are aliens, my son is convinced they are robots, so the movie had to go on this list.
