Product Description

Looking for a travel guide that dares to be honest?

Unlike the cruise booklet that most Tour Operators send out with your booking, our Cruise Guide book tells you how it really is!

Given from an experienced perspective that does not shy away from confronting the issues, it provides a valuable insight into what you can expect from a Nile Cruise by letting you know the scams, as well as the pleasures awaiting you on your Egyptian vacation.

Our Travel Egypt books offer straight answers, with sound and practical holiday advice. This book is illustrated throughout with over 50 black and white photographs and contains, amongst other things:

PRACTICAL ADVICE: Such as how to deal with hassle, unwanted attention, intimidation and illness. Plus, extra costs involved that you are rarely told about, local scams, bartering tips, things to avoid, etc.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Such as, medical advice, visa requirements, facts and figures, prices, boat facilities and layout, money matters, cruise schedules, safety issues, etc. SUGGESTIONS: Such as, suitable clothing, useful Arabic phrases, local customs, local dishes and drinks etc. RECOMMENDATIONS: Such as ancient sites, reviews, entertainment, extra excursions, useful links, free downloads etc.

This book is a unique guide to the 'events' of a Nile Cruise and whilst we do discuss the ancient sites in some detail it is only our book that deals with the topics we cover - namely 'telling you how it is'.

This guide has been specifically written to help people avoid the scams and hassle that could ruin their holiday.

The book tells you how it is, without over romanticising the experience, and contains information you would be hard pressed to find in one place.

A must read for anyone planning, or thinking of taking an Egyptian Nile Cruise.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
This book is illustrated throughout with over 50 photographs, helping you to visualise what the author is referring to.

From the Author
In order to ensure accuracy this book is based solely on my own personal experience. And although I have written this book from the perspective of a UK traveller, over 98% of the information provided is relevant to most tourists visiting Egypt.

As well as covering the basic issues, I will also tell you 'how it is' and not just romanticise the experience - something travel agents/tour operators rarely do.

This book is intended to prepare you for what could be your once-in-a-lifetime cruise. Personally, I adore visiting Egypt, but without the insights this book offers to the first time visitor, Egypt can be a bit of a culture shock.

Customer Reviews

What if........5
My girlfriend was intent on taking a trip to Egypt and I have to say that I panicked at the thought of going to a strange country. I was used to holidaying on Spanish islands and other Mediterranean beaches so a trip to such an unknown quantity was needless to say a little daunting.

I hunted around (and purchased) many books about Egypt in an attempt to familiarise myself with the culture and the history and, had I not stumbled across this little gem of a book I find myself wondering what may have been!

Every book you find on the shelf tells you about the history, the places to visit and the culture in Egypt, however this book provides something more - something that I wasn't even aware that I needed in the first place.

Travel Egypt Nile Cruise is for today's tourist.

There is a good deal of information about the sights to see and Egyptian history (enough to keep anyone happy); however, this book really stands alone as the author covers a wide range of topics from bartering tricks and tips to sunstroke avoidance on those long tourist outings. Her no nonsense and whimsical approach kept me informed and entertained throughout. Some of the advice proved invaluable during our stay and I'm sure would prove just as invaluable to other 'First Timers'. (Check out the bit about the boat trip!!!)

This book didn't just provide me with information on what to see and where to go; it gave me an insight on how to get there and how to act in this strange yet amazing country.

An invaluable, superb book. A must if you are visiting Egypt (or indeed any middle east country) for the first time, the second time or even if you are a regular visitor. This author really knows her stuff!

Traveling Egypt with a Nile cruise?5
This little book is an essential guide to your Egyptian holiday - and much more. Author Janet Wood begins your holiday with arrival at the airport, then includes a day-by-day typical Nile cruise schedule. Her book briefly describes the sites you will visit along the way: the Valley of the Kings with an optional visit to the tomb of Tutankhamun. You'll visit the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri,the Valley of the Queens and many other sites. On day two you'll visit beautiful Luxor Temple and Karnak Temples, the largest in the world. Day three will include Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples. Kom Ombo is uinique in its dedication to two gods. Day four: Aswan, with the wonderful Temple of Isis at Philae built on a small island in a pool of blue water. Then day five - you will visit Abu Simbel and the huge temple built by Ramesses II to dominate Nubia. Nearby is the temple of Nefertari, Rameses wife. Day six is spent sailing leisurely back downstream to Luxor with a chance to rest and unwind. Day seven, you may want to try a baloon flight over the West Bank at Luxor.

But the most important feature of the book is that it TELLS YOU HOW IT IS. What you shoule expect from boat facilities, restaurants, what to eat and drink, entertainment, stomach upsets, terrorism, the hassles and pestering you will encounter, tipping and gifts, swimming in the Nile (don't), photography, clothing and accessories, money maters. It is all here in TRAVEL EGYPT NILE CRUISE.

For those traveling to Egypt for the first time, this may be the most important book you can read and take with you. For those who have traveled frequently to Egypt (as I have), and are familiar with the customs and pitfalls, you will enjoy reading about the many traditions that you have experienced. It may be like reliving your travel to Egypt.

Very useful travel book5
I bought this book in order to help us prepare for our first Egypt trip and I wasn't disappointed, as there is so much useful and interesting info, especially regarding on how to barter with the locals.

The author is obviously knowledgeable and gives you valuable insights. The book is not so much concerned with the ancient sites, although many sites are discussed, but deals more with the practical side of a cruise, including how to deal with hassle, medical and money issues, clothing, food etc.

Our tour operator wasn't very forthcoming with this type of information but this book covers it beautifully. I am not exaggerating when I say this book is a mind of information, and especially if you don't know what to expect from your cruise, (like us) then you need all the help you can get.

The book also contains some lovely photos throughout the book, which helps you to visualise what the author is talking about, for example when she talks about the tomb of Tuthmoses, and at the end of the book there is a list of useful links.

Handy size to take on holiday for reference. (Paperback version)

Great advice - worth every penny!

There is also an ebook version with colour photographs. I noticed this review shows up on both the ebook and paperback versions - so make sure you are ordering the one you want!
