| There isn't a whole lot written specifically about this region. Except (ahem!) your storekeeper's guidebook, Exploring the North Coast, which went out of print a few years back after Chronicle Books sold 10,000 copies. It will be re-released by a different publisher soon. In the meantime, you can pick up a used copy cheap by clicking the link. Here's how it starts: "Fog, fresh winds and sheep at steep angles ... a rocky coastline where endless waves explode, one after the other, into dangerous white meringue ... an antique, New England-ish village with the good sense not to become Sausalito ... a steep and primitive region, where backpackers can stroll the beach for the better part of a week without encountering another soul ... solemn redwoods carpeted with neon-green ferns and crawling with enchanted banana slugs." | ||
