The GXT740VP3 features a Vibrating Alert for silent notification, 142 Privacy Codes, 5 Level E Vox for Hands Free operation, Scan of the 42 Channels, Hi/Med/Low Power Settings, 10 Call Alerts, Keypad Lock, and Battery Save Circuit. Unlike other GMRS radios on the market that use lithium batteries, Midland's Dual Power Option allows the use of the included rechargeable batteries or 4 "AA" batteries (Not included). Solid budget buy
I wasn't expecting too much for the price, but was thoroughly impressed by nearly every aspect of these 2ways. Most notably the battery life. I was able to use them for about 9 hours straight without recharging! My only snag was with the set up, which I expected to be easier. To be fair, I jumped in without reading the manual, I usually get away with that, but not so much this time. All in all, I would highly recommend for casual use and for entry level two way fun!

Good value and performance
I am quite satisfied with these Midland units. They work better than some older Motorola radios that I have compared them with. Satisfaction is geared to ones expectations and for me a couple of miles fit the range profile that seems reasonable for this category of radio. These units support weather channels, use AA cells and not AAA's and have a 3 year warranty. They function as either FRS or GMRS radios and include all the typical features. The standard rechargeable batteries are a plus and if you charge them appropriately (don't leave them on charge beyond the recommended time) they give fairly good operating time. These units do what I expected and for a reasonable cost.

Good, but not great
The Midland GXT740VP3 walkie-talkies are a solid product - provided there are few obstructions between you and the other person using them. Hills, trees, buildings, etc. will shorten their usable distance dramatically - to about 2 or 3 miles. Oh, and don't loose the manual or your cooked! Other than that, their great.
