One Third of the Holy Trinity of Puerto Rican Music
If music could redeem us from all the bad things one encounters in life, if music could give one hope for some greater power of benevolence and goodness that may one day bring some peace and lasting beauty in a world often overwhelmed with strife, suffering, evil and pain, then the messenger of that music may well be Cheo. This album has the power to heal and redeem. It is a masterwork.
Que Viva Cheo
I owe so much to this stylish veteran singer. He's been a part of my Latin musical appreciation since I was a young boy in the Bronx. From his days with Joe Cuba's Sextet to his gigs with the Cesta All Stars, Allegre All Stars, Eddie Palmieri, Fania, Louis Garcia and finally to his own, Cheo has rarely given less than his very best. This album with the late Tite Curet Alonso's pen and Johnny Pacheco musical instinct, is one of Cheo Feliciano's signature works. The alternating smooth rumbas and velvet boleros never tire. This is my favorite all-time salsa CD. The CD appeals equally to one's romantic yearning as well as impulse to kick up and dance. This review was originally published August 24, 2003.
A true classic from one of Salsa's "Living Legends".
This 1973 release was both a very important and very special album. The combination of Cheo's smooth, tender, passionate and powerful vocals coupled with Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso's inspired songwriting was a winning one from the very start of their partnership. "Hace Furo", "Nabori", "Armonioso Cantar" and "Pensar En Ti" are all-time classics and your reasons for buying this timeless masterpiece.
