Sony PD170 better than expected5
I read great reviews on Sony's DSR-PD170 Camcorder. I bought this particular one used and it out performs my new Sony HVR-HD1000U in color reproduction and low light quality. Where the HD1000U has a much crisper image in bright light (it's H.D. and in bright room or sunlight) the PD170 reproduces colors nearly perfectly; where the HD1000U tends to give colors a slightly "cool" and ever so slightly muted color tones. I've learned to use my HD1000U in bright light situations and save the PD170 for low light. When the HD1000U's screen is nearly pitch black from low light levels, the PD170's image looks like broad daylight. With much more manual control over iris, shutter, zoom, AE, etc. this is a great camera and a great investment!
