Amazon.com Review
Offering three storage options, this cleverly designed appliance is not only convenient, it turns the chore of opening cans into a hands-free operation that's as fun as it is effective. The opener is cordless so it goes anywhere, eliminating the need to carry a can to a countertop or mounted electric opener. Simply clamp the opener onto any size can and let go of the soft-grip top. The opener then walks around the can on its own, shutting off automatically when the can is open. A swing-out magnet lifts the lid free. The opener is lightweight and recharges in a compact, 6-3/4-by-5-1/2-inch plastic charging base that can be mounted on a wall (mounting hardware included), set on the counter, or placed in a drawer. For easy cleaning, the removable, stainless-steel blade is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Handy Gizmo "can" work well in your kitchen
We got this gadget three months ago because my wife has limited right hand grasp and can't use a manual can opener. Pros: Our Gizmo has opened many a can since, from small to large. The trick for us is to position the Gizmo on larger cans, turn it on and let it "walk" itself around- smaller cans may have to be held. The charge has lasted for weeks on the average. Cons: Though the blade looks rather cheesy, it has done well so far... the only defect we have noticed is the Gizmo and associated charger's size- they are bulky and don't fit easily into normal kitchen drawers (ergo, four stars). Nonetheless, it is an easy decision for us- the Gizmo stays!
A year-plus later (May 2004,) this Gizmo still works like new, with at least daily use. I like it, and my wife is very pleased with it's easy-to-use functionality and its ergonomic fit in her hand. (Tip: When it begins to run down, we turn it on until it is fully discharged before putting it on its charging base - with NiCd batteries, this will prevent your battery form developing a "false memory" and not charge fully.)
Gizmo not for big can's
The Gizmo is ok for small can's . But getting it started on a small can is a pain. For a large can it dose not have the power to open them . Part way through it will stop. The Gizmo is a good idea but it needs work. Black & Decker is a good name so i think thay could do it.
Well, it worked great...for about 2 months.
I really liked this opener. While it lasted.
After about 2 months of use, a rivet worked loose so the opener wouldn't grip any can.
I called B&D Customer Service. They gave me an RMA number and said they'd send me a replacement. It only took 6 weeks and two phone calls to get a replacement.
Glad I didn't toss my old hand-cranked opener!
