Product Description
Canon's large-area CMOS sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range, and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. With an effective pixel resolution of 3,904 x 2,598, the EOS Digital Rebel XTi offers superb detail and clarity, even in large prints, and generates finished files that open at approximately 30MB in your image-editing software. On Canon's CMOS sensor, each pixel is captured with fine detail to create images of tremendous depth and resolution, ensuring enough information for even poster-sized prints. With the DIGIC II Image Processor on board, photographers can expect natural color reproduction, precise white balance in any number of lighting situations and unparalleled clarity. The EOS Digital Rebel XTi has a brilliant 2.5-inch LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 pixels. All shooting and review information is accessed on the rear LCD monitor, and the wide viewing angle of 160° and brighter, easier-to-read menus give the new Rebel XTi LCD monitor an obvious advantage. Exceptional value
As a Canon 10D owner wishing to upgrade I was heavily leaning toward the Canon 40D. However, after reading numerous reviews I opted for the Canon XTi. After using the XTi for several months I do not regret buying the less expensive body. Everyone researching the XTi, is already aware of its many improvements and the few differences with its bigger brother, the Canon 40D. So I will not repeat what been said so many times before. Instead, I will address my major concern about moving down to the XTi; namely, its petite size and perhaps less rugged construction. On both counts I am completely satisfied. I have large hands and am accustomed to handling medium size professional equipment. Yet, with the addition of a CA-1112 Canon Armor rubberized body case, I have no difficulty in maintaining a good grip on the camera, even with over-sized L series lenses. As for the ruggedness of the camera, I believe it will easily stand up to the three years of use I plan to give it. Given the rapidity of improvements with digital cameras, paying only half the price of the Canon D40 will enable me to upgrade more quickly. Bottom line--digital photography has changed the game from the days of film cameras, when a sturdy camera was expected to last for many years. (I still have my twin-reflex cameras packed away; and they still take great pictures, but I don't use them). I say go for the XTi and upgrade sooner. P.S. It's a pleasure to use the XTi: very responsive, easy to handle, good menu setups, and best of all, takes fantastic pictures.
