Rebel XSi - great camera!
Like most people who purchase a digital SLR camera, I used a 35mm SLR for many years and would process my own film. While not a professional, I like nice equipment and was not disappointed with the Canon Rebel XSi. Like most of you, I did a lot of research prior to making a purchase and finally decided on the Canon because of the large choice of lenses. I also looked at Nikon, Sony, Kodak, and Pentax, which are all fine cameras. I am still learning to use all the bells and whistles on the Rebel XSi, but you can't go wrong with full-automatic if you get in a pinch and have to go into idiot mode. The `Live View' is nice when you have the time to compose your picture and magnify the image to make sure you have the focus just right. I have 3 lenses so far (EF-S 18-55 f/3.5 -5.6 IS lens, EF 75-300mm f/4-f5.6 III Telephoto Zoom lens, and EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Standard & Medium telephoto lens)and only lack a wide angle ( EF-S 10-22 F/3.5 -4.5 USM lens) to make me happy for awhile. I felt somewhat limited with the onboard flash the camera sports, so I added a Canon Speedlite 580 EX II Flash, as I found it annoying when the built-in flash would pop up while I was taking a picture. With this camera, a good tripod, and Photoshop I have all I need to indulge my interest in Photography as a hobby.
