3W light vs vl-5 is 5w light
The -2 is a 3W video light (had to dig hard to find that spec) - while the vl-5 is a full 5w light. The -2 does have a built in flash while the -5 is a light only but doesn't interfere with your camera's existing pop-up flash.

What it boils down to is less power for video, and a little more flash for picture taking on your video camera. For me, I tried both and opted to go with the built in flash and the vl-5 for the distance brightness of the light. the tiny LED built into the popup flash is not suitable for video production due to its color rendition.

One note, however, if you don't have a big battery the vl-5 option eats your battery twice as fast while it is on. the good news is it has a 3 position switch on the vl-5 - off, auto, and on.

With both lights using your advanced accessory shoe you need to decide if 3W is enough or if you want the full spectrum, full power of the vl-5 light. That's the only reason I took off one star - otherwise this is a a great product - if you take alot of still pictures you'll really like it.
