Amazon.com Product Description
Beauty and brains combine in the classic styling of the 100XL Automatic Chronograph, a recent addition to the Santos series. Clean lines on the 42-millimeter stainless steel case are studded with screws on the square bezel, securing the scratch-resistant sapphire window. Roman numerals mark the time on the silvered opaline-white dial where three inset chronographs display seconds, minutes, and hours with stop/start functions at the flick of a button, and wrist movement powers the watch automatically. A date display window is positioned four and five o'clock. The genuine black alligator-leather band sports Cartier's patented deployment-buckle folding clasp. Powered by Cartier's own Calibre 8630 Swiss-automatic self-winding movement, this timepiece offers a 330-foot water-resistant depth rating.
The Cartier Story

By the early 20th century, Cartier had expanded its collection to include watches. At a time when pocket watches were still considered de rigueur for the distinguished gentleman, Cartier helped popularize the wristwatch, making it a bold fashion statement for men and women as well as a status symbol among the well-to-do. Louis Cartier is credited with creating the first men's wristwatch, the Santos, in 1904. He developed and named the watch for his client and friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who needed a device that would allow him to read the time without taking his hands off the controls of his airplane.
Other classic designs followed, including Cartier's signature timepiece--the Tank--which debuted in 1917 during the First World War and was inspired by the tough new war machine the Americans introduced to the fighting in Europe. Cartier's first water-resistant watch was named after the Pasha of Marrakesh, who requested that Cartier create watch that he could wear while in his swimming pool and not lose track of time.
And while it is known more for its luxurious design, Cartier is also credited with creating the highly functional deployment folding clasp in 1910, which is now used by watchmakers around the globe.
Modern Cartier watchmakers still base their watch designs on the early fundamentals developed by Louis Cartier. Treasured by collectors, Cartier watches are distinguished by their impressive variety of shapes (round, square, oval, Tank, Tortue and Tonneau), by their exceptional materials and workmanship, and by their recognizable Cartier aesthetic, an elegant blend of classic and modern design.
Customer Reviews
This watch is nothing short of Amazing!
Anyone reading this don't listen to the dumb guy that rated the watch 1/5 because apparently he doesn't know the difference between rating a product and the website since he rated Amazon and not the watch, *sigh* what a moron, anyways, The Cartier Santos 100 Chrono is BIG, so if you have small wrists go to your local AD (authorized dealer) and try it on (I would recommend doing this for every watch you plan on buying), the face is beautiful and the layout of the sub-dials gives it a nice touch, the date is changed through a recessed pusher at the 10'o clock position, not through the crown like you would normally do, this watch uses an ETA Valjoux 7753 movement, in case you're wondering, very robust. Everything is smooth, and the strap is extremely comfortable! I rate this watch 5/5--!
Here's a tip, don't get the Two-Tone version just yet, get the SS and then get a jeweler to make you a custom 18Kt Gold bezel for it, and with the money you saved buy another watch (Hey, it's a $2,300 difference!)! That's what I did, and they only charged me $500 for the bezel and work including the gold bar on the deployant, how cool is that? Both are 18Kt Yellow Gold, but you can customize it to whatever you like, platinum, diamonds, rose gold, etc. It will still be cheaper than $2,300!
Overall, I love this watch, it's perfect for anything, casual, formal, etc. It's beefy, it stands out, and the dial is breathtaking! 5/5 for this piece of art!
Great Deal - Very Happy
It's been several months since I purchased this watch. I am so glad that I ordered this product from Amazon.com. I was very afraid I would receive a replica of some sorts. That was not the case! This is the same watch I would have gotten directly from Cartier here in Chicago (I showed them the watch)with two exceptions.
The first is that the warranty is not through Cartier but through Amazon. Normally, these watches simply don't break down unless they are abused and/or not maintained properly. If a Cartier works correctly for a couple of weeks when new, it will more than likely work for a couple of years. I trust that Amazon will stand behind its warranty, just in case I need to use it.
The second exception is the price! I saved over $3000! While still expensive, I would be challenged to find a better looking and made watch for the price.
