First Place Winner of "Best Book by a New Author" by the US & Canada Catholic Press Association
Using Scripture passages as inspiration, the author reveals that the spiritual journey calls us to greater consciousness. Like Eckhart Tolle's, A New Earth, Reaman touches on similar topics from a Christian perspective and offers practical ways to apply these insights to our lives. This is one new author to keep an eye on!
Worth reading
I can carry on a conversation with God? Really? I had heard that it was a possibility many times in my life, but never before felt the urge until I read this book. You will see what I mean after the first chapter. Mary's account of her ongoing dialogue with God shows us that ANYTHING is possible if we'll only take the first step in our personal relationship with Him. There really IS someone "out there" who is compassionate and willing to listen. The question is: Will we not only speak, but listen as well? You'll love this book!
Honoring unity in all creation
The author speaks of influences that led her to consider prayer a friendly talk with God and to follow God's invitation to "know My word." Responding to that invitation has brought Reaman to a relationship with God "that continues to press my growth, demand my attention, and direct my life." That relationship is the basis for Wake Up to God's Word, a solid resource for individuals and groups seeking their deeper potential and "a new consciousness that honors unity in all creation."
Each chapter begins with a Scripture passage and concludes with a four-part practice session. The body of the chapters connects the topics with daily life and Scripture. For example, the Wake Up chapter opens with Mark 13:32-37, warning us to be aware and keep alert, for we do not know the hour the master will return. Reaman explores Jesus' teaching on relationships with one another and with God. "The call to stay awake implies that God can use absolutely any relationship, circumstance or encounter as an opening, as a means of communication or revelation." The ego identification practice asks us to review scenarios marked by our overreaction, defensiveness and self-pity, all manifestations of the ego. We then imagine how we would have responded if we were acting solely on the Word within, where we know we are one with God. For contemplation, Reaman cites John 14:23 "Those who love me will keep my word..." and we consider ways to prepare ourselves to be a home for God. The act of loving kindness consists of sharing a meal with someone in difficulty, listening actively or simply being present rather than trying to solve the problem.
