Having noticed for a number of years that people can be quite creative when it comes to naming their pets, I began to keep records in the form of a card file and then a database. The names were gleaned from a number of sources -- childhood pets, stopping people walking their dogs, from my husband's veterinary practice and from magazine and newspaper articles.
