From Publishers Weekly
Millan, television's "Dog Whisperer," says that "Even the most unobservant person can see an owner's own issues totally mirrored in his or her dogs' problems," and in this follow-up to last year's bestselling Cesar's Way, he makes that connection more explicit and exploitable. Every dog wants a "clearly defined social framework, with a fair, consistent pack leader"; chances are good, then, that behind every unruly dog is an inconsistent human. To become the master your dog needs, one must cultivate "calm-assertive energy," a mind-set that puts both dogs and people at ease; besides thorough explanation, Millan offers a number of suggestions for developing this powerful form of non-verbal communication, including visualization techniques and inner dialogue ("focus your mind, and then tell yourself, 'This is my sofa.' "). Answering readers' requests for more straightforward advice, the book also offers a rundown of training tools-collars, leashes, etc.-and step-by-step instructions for properly handling common occurrences such as meeting a new dog, walking, feeding and visiting the vet. In numerous case studies, Millan's love for his work is obvious and infectious; whether you need a book for your dog or yourself, Millan's simple techniques, compassionate tone and intimate knowledge of dog psychology (and the human effect on it) makes this a worthy read.

The bestselling author of CESARÕS WAY and star of the popular TV show ÒDog WhispererÓ excels at conveying his trademark sensible message and calmly assertive energy. MillanÕs light Hispanic accent is pleasing to the ear, and his natural persuasive ability and innate sense of timing and emphasis make his points about dog psychology even more compelling. Explaining how to give our dogs (and ourselves) balance through provocative anecdotes about different cases and providing valuable information about how to fulfill the potential of different breeds, Millan captivates from beginning to end. His accessible message and caring but emphatic delivery invite listeners to ponder how our own energy and inner struggles may affect the lives of our pets--and the people around us. J.C.G. Everyone Can Learn Valuable Lessons From This Book
People bring a dog into their homes and treat that animal like a human being. Cesar reminds everyone that a dog is an animal and that when you treat a dog like a human being you are fulfilling your own needs and not the needs of your dog. You rob a dog of their very nature by making it behave like and treating it like a human being.
This is a book about training dogs by training their owners. Read the book with an open mind and understand that Cesar is really talking about how to find balance in your life -- when you do that, your dog will live a balanced life as well.
There is a wealth of knowledge in this book about learning to live in the now, how to overcome anxiety, understanding how you feel and how what you feel affects the people and dogs around you and so much more.
Cesar has truly written a book that helps dogs by helping people understand how their emotions affect their dog.
I don't even have a dog but I have learned so much about myself from watching Cesar's show, "Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel that I just had to read his book. I took it out of the library and then knew I had to have my own copy. This wonderful book is filled with fantastic lessons for real people. As Cesar says, "changing the world one dog at a time."
Have a dog or don't have a dog, buy this book. You will be glad you did!!!
Get "Cesar's Way" Instead and save your money
Reading "ceasar's way" proved to be more informative than this book. While it gave the reader more case examples it basically re-iterated what was said in the prior book. I am a little dissapointed. Its not that I wanted to learn everything he does but some tips other than what was in the first book would have been helpful.
Be The Pack Leader
I don't have satellite, and so I rely on the season DVDs to watch Cesar Millan. I am always impressed and inspired. Watching and listening to him has carried over into my relationship with my horses. I have enjoyed hearing an expanded version of his philosophy on this audio book, Be The Pack Leader. I suspect most fans of Cesar have carried his concepts over into their relationship with the human species also. I have appreciated him because he confirmed so many things that animals have taught me. My only complaint about this CD is that it is abridged, and I would have preferred the full, 9 hour edition.
