Best soccer game to date
I've read a lot about the problems this game has been having on the PS3... talks of slow-down in the game play, reviews coming mostly from Europe, particulary the UK. I'm not sure what is different here in the US, but I've had absolutely no slow-down problem of any sort. I've played it on my Standard-TV (non-HD) and my HD set, and everything is running smooth.
As far as I can tell, that's been the only thing dragging down other reviews, because this game is close to perfect. Yes, it does the lack of licencing is an issue(doesn't have all real team names, player names, etc.), but that can be easily fixed using the editing tools, or you can download optionfiles with everything fixed and updated. Just google "Pro Evo 2008 ps3 option file" and you should be able to find it along with instructions.
The soccer in this game is brilliant, and is much more realistic than FIFA!!
It's about gameplay
This game as all the Pro Evolution Soccer series, formerly known as Winning Eleven, is about enjoying the game of soccer as closely as the real game.
When you score you really fight for it and it's not about doing the same play over and over to score multiple times you might try the same play and results won't be always the same.
I dodn't give the game 5 stars just because the graphics in the background specially when you score are like the original Play Station, but you can live with that when your fingers and mind are itching to play this game, because as games in the past it is adictive and when you get to score you enjoy it because it's exciting you put effort into it.
Also if you are into WE and now PES you know you don't get all licensed teams but that doesn't take anything away of the fun factor and gameplay, maybe on the over all experience.
And in case you are wondering I have played the FIFA 2008 demo sure it was impressive graphic wise, and the licensed teams but after 2 games I didn't want to know anythig else about it. In the end what are you looking for a nice game to watch or an adictive game to play? If you want licenses and stunning presentatio go with Fifa if you are craving for an addictive game then go with Pro Evolution.
Best soccer game ever
I've been a PES/Winning 11 enthusiast since 1998, and this is the best iteration by far. Although the network play mode is major novelty, expect to have a poor experience when playing an opponent on the network - just when you think your D cleared a ball in the goal area, the ball all of a sudden goes in the net.
