From The Washington Post
From The Washington Post's Book World/washingtonpost.com The Complete Quincy Jones By Quincy Jones. Insight Editions. 141 pp. $45 Born in Chicago in 1933, Quincy Delight Jones, Jr., was one of eight children. After moving to Seattle with his father when he was 10, he learned to sing and play the piano and alto sax. When big bands started coming through town -- Count Basie, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington -- he was there. "This is where I want to live for the rest of my life," he decided. "And I want to be an arranger and composer." As this book -- a cornucopia of memorabilia -- demonstrates, he did all that and then some. Throughout his dazzling career, Jones conducted and arranged music for Frank Sinatra and Count Basie; produced Lesley Gore's It's My Party, Michael Jackson's Thriller and USA for Africa's We Are the World; and composed music for The Bill Cosby Show and Roots and the movies In Cold Blood and The Color Purple. He influenced not only the entire music industry, but film, television, philanthropy and social activism. As Clint Eastwood says in his foreword, "The legacy he'll leave to the world is genuinely tremendous."

Quincy Jones is a legend!
I do admire the man and his genius work. But the truth that I bough this book because of Michael Jackson. There was part that Quincy recalled about the making of Thriller and his time with Michael Jackson. Also, the story behind "We Are The World". Thank you Quincy for bringing out the best of Michael Jackson and many other artists.
The Master of Musc
I saw Quincy Jones in an interview on Tavis Smiley to promote this book. As soon as the interview was over I ordered this book for my husband, a Quincy Jones fan. This book is AMAZING! It is like a scrapbook of his life with reproduced items from his entire musical career. It is as unique as the musician, producer, composer it celebrates. This is truly a must have!
Unbelievably amazing!
I purchased this book with a birthday present gift card. It is beyond fabulous. The personal memorabilia that he has placed in the book is reproduced so well, that it seems like you actually have the real things at your disposal. I was so excited when I purchased the book and I was not disappointed at all. I am a great admirer of Mr. Jones because he is not only a musician and producer, but also, a composer and arranger. He defies stereotypes for African American musicians, yet he is quintessentially African American. He has embraced and arranged/composed for all musical mediums. He has no limits to his reach and creativity. I have several biographies on musicians and this is by far the best one. The combination of pictures, writing, and memorabilia help to create an "experience" that goes beyond just reading a bio, or just looking at a coffee table book. I highly recommend the book to all fans of Quincy Jones, and to those who want to get a glimpse of how he collaborated with musicians and entertainers across all genres. I would also recommend the book to young musicians who aspire to greatness, they can get a glimpse of how great a life a musician and a committed humanitarian can have. "Q" is most definitely an American Icon and a national treasure.
