Amazon.com Product Description
Chaco offers this stylish alternative to the traditional sport sandal. Designed with ergonomics and practicality in mind, the shoe features colorful straps that are also adjustable and quick-drying for all-day comfort. The molded polyurethane footbed gently cradles the foot while offering excellent support with its substantial arch and well-defined heel cup. The thick, treaded rubber sole keeps you steady and stable whether you’re navigating slippery city sidewalks or maneuvering rough and rocky trails.
Customer Reviews
My go-to footwear for just about everything....
I've been wearing Chacos for about ten years now and have owned five pairs - and they're all still in service, though my first pair is a little elderly by now and tends to get relegated to dog-walking use.
They're pretty fantastic. The fit is infinitely customizable, and the footbed is highly supportive. I wear them for everything from travel and around town to light dayhikes with total comfort - in fact, I only wear hiking shoes or boots with heavy packs, or if the trail is rough. The curved-up tip of the sandal protects your toes. They're great for rafting (I've guided raft trips and never knew a guide who didn't wear them), canyoneering, and hiking. The sole provides great grip on wet rock, dry rock, sand, dirt, and pavement, but has problems with roots and vegetation. The newer soles are lightweight but very rugged - they cushion impact and protect your feet better than some boots.
Their high price might put some off, but consider that they're durable enough to last easily 5-6 active years, and Chaco will resole OR restrap them for about $30. I've resoled many times and it's like getting a new sandal - their customer service is superb. Also, the high arch is worth mention; it's almost as sculpted as a custom orthotic, and while I find them incredibly comfortable, those with fallen arches might not. Finally, a note on sizing. I wear a 10.5 or 11 on most shoes and usually round up. With Chacos, I wear a 10. An 11 has too big an arch support, leaving me standing with my weight on my arches - not comfy. If in doubt, shoot low on the size.
My Podiatrist Recommended
My Podiatrist recommended Chaco sandals for their good foot support. I didn't like the looks of the standard black on black, but saw the brown on brown combo in a local store. I've been very happy with their comfort and appearance--better than I had expected. My only observation (not a complaint) is that the straps could be a few inches longer to ease putting them on and tightening. I do have wide feet (E), but they are not exceptionally wide. None-the-less, the foot platform is perfect in width.
Chaco
I have been a faithful advocate for Teva sandals for 15 years until I found the Chaco brand the comfort and durability far surpass any other sandal I have ever owned. I highly recommend this sandal, you will not be disappointed.
