Buy new: $69.98 / Used from: $6.84 Although it is not the "scariest" game I have ever played, this is, in my opinion, the BEST horror game ever made when it comes to actual gameplay. This doesn't mean it won't make you jump out of your skin, and possibly soil yourself in the process, it just isn't as disturbing as some of the others.

Buy new: $104.88 / Used from: $10.50 This is the only game that has ever given me actual nightmares. It took the basic formula that made the first Silent Hill a success, but made it waaaay creepier and much more disturbing. This is the scariest game ever made.

 | Fatal Frame
Buy new: $59.94 / Used from: $26.99 This is the first game I played that captured the true spirit of a good Asian horror film in a game. A mansion packed full of creepy ghosts, weird Japanese mythology, and a camera instead of a gun as your only method of defense make this game unique, AND terrifying.

 | BioShock
Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $13.49 Although it might not technically be classified as a "horror game" (which is the only reason it is not higher on this list), this game has a lot of parts that are very frightening. Everything from the absolutely beautiful city of Rapture, to the story, and even the sometimes cheesy 1950's music make this brilliant game a lot more haunting than it got credit for.

Buy new: $49.98 / Used from: $12.75 The original Resident Evil is no doubt a classic that paved the way for almost all modern survival-horror games. However, it is very flawed. While this nearly forgotten GameCube remake is still not perfect, it does fix a lot of problems the original had.

Buy new: $64.99 / Used from: $3.35 This psuedo-remake of the original Doom pushed the original X-Box to an extreme by way of scares AND visuals.

Buy used from: $18.89 Disregard the bastardized version of Nemesis from that horrible excuse for a movie "Resident Evil: Apocalypse". The O.G. Nemesis was f___ing scary. If I only had a nickel for every time I had to throw away a pair of underwear after that ugly thing came crashing through a wall...

Buy new: $509.94 / Used from: $10.80 This game is like the crazy love child of Final Fantasy and Silent Hill. And since I love both of those, why wouldn't I love this?

 | Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Buy used from: $22.89 I think of this game the same way I think of a lot of the old Universal monster movies. Although, they don't scare me at all, I still love them, and they undeniably fall into the horror genre. This game is a gothic, 2-D, vampire-slaying blast. A classic.

Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $15.00 I probably shouldn't even put this on the list because I've barely played it. But that very brief time that I spent with it scared me so much that I HAD to put it on here. Very creepy stuff...
