The third big 3D Metroid games, and the same planet-crawling alien-blasting Samus Aran. All violence is alien based so it's okay for the younger set. There are two more "prime" titles in this trilogy, both for Gamecube.

The original Metroid can be found in many releases, this one's for the GBA and will play on DS. Samus Aran is the original strong female hero. Think female Boba Fett.

A great point and click adventure with an engrossing story. Rated M so take that into account. This title is light on the gameplay but heavy on the narrative.

A great action game with some political satire. Characters are discernibly male or female with no bad stereotyping. Good for all ages.

Good old-fashioned action-puzzler fun! Great for the whole family to play together as well.

Ocean exploration game where you can play as a male or female diver with no change in story. Very peaceful and relaxing, no violence so good for younger set, and contains facts about sealife.

This title thrives on user-created content so online is a must. Young children should be supervised online, but otherwise a great game for everyone.

Like D&D in 3D with total freedom to do whatever you want. Choice of male and female roles, but rated M for violence, please keep that in mind. Also for PS3 and PC.

Also available in the Orange Box for PC and X-box 360. This is a great puzzle game with a heroine and a sense of humor. Look forward to your cake!

Contains some adult humor but great for an older set of gamer. Unique gameplay and Amaterasu is one of the best heroines in gaming. Also available for PS2.

Also for PC. Gritty zombie survival game with excellent coop and a strong female role. Rated M for violence, gore, and other delightful stuff.

Female characters can be scantily clad but are strong. Great plot but male lead. Good for those strict JRPG fans or anyone that played this back in the day.
