Wii Light-Gun Shooters

Perfect Shot for WiiPerfect Shot for Wii
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.99
I prefer the Perfect Shot Gun accessory over the Wii Zapper, but it's a matter of taste. This handgun shell feels more authentic and leaves the nunchuk free in your other hand for games that require independent nunchuk movement. Nyko makes THE BEST GUN shell for the Wii - far better then the "magnums" or "laser pointer" guns offered by CTA and other competitors.
Dead Space ExtractionDead Space Extraction
Buy new: $46.99 / Used from: $31.20
2009/M. Despite great reviews, this outstanding shooter was largely overlooked on its release. It is an incredible installment in an incredibly scary franchise - outdoing the Resident Evil franchise in both categories. Don't miss this. Arguably the best available on any console. Metacritic = 82
Call of Duty: World at WarCall of Duty: World at War
Buy new: $46.99 / Used from: $28.47
The Wii version supports the Zapper. All of the recent COD titles have been smash hits. The WW2-themed WAW by Treyarch is heavily based on the incredible COD4 and is awesome. Metacritic = 83
Ghost SquadGhost Squad
Buy used from: $18.99
2007. This arcade port (2004) from Sega is fun single player, but is one of the best MULTIPLAYER rail-shooter experiences on the Wii. If you don't like zombies/monsters or prefer 80s-90s era action films, this should be your first choice. Best with a friend. Metacritic = 69
House of the Dead: OverkillHouse of the Dead: Overkill
Buy new: $19.96 / Used from: $9.40
2009/M. Definitely rated M. Designed exclusively for the Wii (this is not a port) to take advantage of the console's unique controls. The developers improved on their HOD 2 & 3 arcade port in every way and the B-movie dialogue ans shtick is hilarious. Metacritic = 78
Resident Evil: The Umbrella ChroniclesResident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Buy new: $18.00 / Used from: $15.96
2007. One of the best SINGLE-player rail shooters available. Specifically designed for the Wii. If you're a fan of the Resident Evil (Biohazard) franchise, this is a no-brainer as it takes you back through familiar settings from RE0, RE1, and RE3. Requires independent Nunchuk movement (reloading, knife slashing, etc), so choose your gun shell accordingly. Metacritic = 75
Resident Evil: The Darkside ChroniclesResident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Buy new: $44.99 / Used from: $36.24
2009/M. A solid sequel to Umbrella Chronicles. This time, you revisit familiar locations from RE2 and Code Veronica, plus an all new chapter set just before RE4. As expected, you can play as Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, among familiar faces. Difficulty adjusts automatically to the player's skill.
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Buy used from: $18.00
2007. Only the single-player mode of this game is a rail-gunner. The outstanding multiplayer mode is a traditional FPS and one of the best online mp shooters for the Wii (up to 32 players). Definitely worth your time! Metacritic = 73
House of the Dead 2 & 3 ReturnHouse of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Buy new: $17.78 / Used from: $19.99
2008. As an older arcade port (1998/2002), HoD looks & feels a little dated. But it should be familiar and satisfying to long-time light-gun fans. HoD offers more straight-up arcade shooting action than the Resident Evil games above which feature more story progression and cutscenes. Metacritic = 66
James Bond 007: Quantum of SolaceJames Bond 007: Quantum of Solace
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $18.00
2008. Special controls for the Wii version. It can be fun online or in 4-player split screen, but don't expect it to live up to the outstanding James Bond predecessors. Metacritic = 54.
Link's Crossbow TrainingLink's Crossbow Training
Buy new: $78.93 / Used from: $4.28
2007. Comes packaged with the Wii Zapper. A kid-friendly shooter, especially for fans of the Zelda series.
Official Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow TrainingOfficial Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $19.81
Nintendo's less threatening design has a cool & compact form factor (somewhat like a sub-machine gun), but may feel a bit cramped for larger gamers. Ideal for children and smaller hands. And great if you want both the Remote & Nunchuk linked together in a single accessory. Plus, it includes a Link game.
Target TerrorTarget Terror
Buy new: $15.74 / Used from: $11.48
2008. Yet another arcade port (2004) featuring old-school arcade shooter action - fast-paced, twitchy, and intense. Bottom of the list because it is least enjoyable & least attractive of the current crop of Wii shooters. Maybe the sequel will be an improvement. If you've exhausted your rail-shooter options before exhausting your interest, then maybe give it a look. Metacritic = 33.
Chicken ShootChicken Shoot
Buy new: $13.30 / Used from: $8.85
2007. Take a fun, classic, hit like 'Duck Hunt', then screw up its simple formula and release it as 'Chicken Shoot'. This is an update of a 5-year-old downloadable, PC, flash game. Avoid at all costs! Metacritic = 27.
Cabela's Big Game HunterCabela's Big Game Hunter
Buy new: $39.99 / Used from: $22.99
The best-reviewed of Cabela's many big game hunting sims (eg, Trophy Bucks, Dangerous Hunts, etc). It does use the light gun, but is not a rail-shooter like most of the games listed above. You likely already know if this is your kind of game or not.
Wii Shot GunWii Shot Gun
Buy new: $49.99
2008. Only recommended if you intend to play the Cabela's line of Big Game Hunting games. It has a satisfying heft, but isn't as accurate as some other peripherals. I prefer Nyko's Perfect Shot accessory for almost all other light-gunners.
Wii Buzz ShotgunWii Buzz Shotgun
2008. Better designed than its predecessor (above), but less well-reviewed. I have not personally used this peripheral.
