Customer Reviews

I like this frame better as time goes on4
I purchased this digital frame based on reviews on this and other web sites and on being able to purchase it at a much better price than most retailers sell it for ($159 incl.shp). Initially I was attracted by Mustek's (Ality) styling for this model. I wanted a frame with internal memory and a high resolution LCD. I'm a photographer and used to viewing my images on my calibrated 24" iMac. The Ality cannot come close to that image quality, but it's quite good compared to most other digital frames in this price range. If you are willing to pay $700-$1,200 for a PhotoVu frame, I expect you might get higher quality.

This Ality frame comes from with the factory defaults set for very high contrast which causes the images to appear washed out with blown out highlights. You must go into the menu and reduce the default settings to obtain better contrast and improved color. The color setting is automatic and lacks saturation with reds appearing a bit too orange, but overall the images are fairly satisfying for casual viewing. The speakers are actually pretty good for small speakers. There is a volume control which is nice also.

This model has a recharging cradle which doubles as a stand for the frame. This feature makes it handy to simply lift it off the cradle and take it to the computer to load jpgs and MP3s and then return it to the cradle without having to reset the clock and other preferences, etc. I like the quality and features of this frame and would buy it again. I looks classy sitting on a table or desk. Mustek makes many other electronics such as scanners, etc., and they compete well in this market with several of their frames wi-fi enabled as well.

A little overpriced3
The unit is well made and attractive. I am a little disappointed at the quality of the display. There was a lot of "wash out" for bright whites when used with the original contrast and brightness settings. After adjustment, the results were better but then some pictures had backgrounds that were a little dark. The viewing angle is also an issue. If you get very much to the side, the brightness of the screen decreases a fair amount. I think the display quality should be better for the high price tag. Other than this, the unit is satisfactory.

A Big Problem1
Be aware you can copy as many pictures as you want onto a memory card but this frame will only show 300 of them. I tried multiple different ways copying 640 photos to a SD card and every time I inserted it into the frame it would only register showing 300 of the pictures.
When calling customer support, they finally admited to knowing about this problem. Their suggestion: Buy a 512mb or smaller memory card instead of using a 1gb card and it should work better, ofcourse it will, you won't be able to put more than 300 pictures on the smaller memory card.
