The next upgrade for this processor the i7 940 is nearly double the cost, and the next one up from that the i7 965 is currently hovering around the 1000$ level so this processor is the way to go. Budget new technology.

This is intels supporting mobo for the new i7 chip, features 6 sata ports with raid 0,1,5 and 10. Memory support up to 16GB of triple channel DDR3. This board replaces the old front side bus technology with native quad core hyperthreading with support for up to 8 seperate threads. The ASUS P6T and Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobos are also very nice but our sub 1000$ budget doesnt give us much room.

This is a great card and slightly more expensive than the 3850. This card will still get you far without breaking the hundred dollar threshold. 256bit interface 775 mhz core clock 320 stream processors, UVD, shader model 4.1. Amazing card for the price.
