excellent, but not for everyone
Introduced by Heuer in 1969 as a motor-sports instrument the Monaco continues to remain contemporary in its design. Tag has wisely chosen to continue producing a number of the auto racing circuit models that made Heuer famous. ( as these are much more interesting and well styled than Tag's own designs. ) There is a misunderstanding shared by those who have commented on this watch and some sellers who offer this model online. The crystal is made from acrylic true to it's vintage predecessor. It is never sapphire regardless of how listed on some web pages. A square watch of 40 to 45 mm in size is going to take on more wear and tear than one of more conventional proportions fitted with a scratch resistant window. This is indeed a specialty piece better suited to collectors than as an everyday "work watch". I happen to consider the Monaco to be on my short list of favorites, and finally have the priveledge to own one.

Long Time Monaco Owner
I've owned this watch for over 5 years and I love it - but it is not for everyone. It runs just as good today as it did the day I bought it and it still looks fantastic - after I "cleaned" it up. This watch is very distinctive and gets lots of complements but I now wear it as more of a dress watch than an every day watch.

When I first purchased this watch I wore it all the time and as noted in some of the other reviews - I scratched the crystal (or acrylic) top. The crystal sticks up from the body of the watch and is easily bumped and ends up taking the brunt of a lot of the daily banging around. If you are looking for an everday watch that will not show its wear - this is not it.


It is such a nice watch that when the watch band broke (a common problem if you wear it every day) I decided to clean it up and wear it less and more carefully than I had been. I had the band and the crystal replaced and the watch looks brand new. Now I only wear it to work or out on the town and it comes off as soon as I get home.

Don't let its "racing" past fool you - this watch is more for dress than for every day and if you treat it that way, it will give you years of care free and stunning service. If you try to wear it as your every day watch - it will work but it'll show its wear pretty quickly.

Buy it from a registered dealer not Amazon
I bought this watch for a friend in England in May and unbelievably it ran 10 minutes fast every hour.
How could this be being a brand new Tag Heuer watch ? now one seemed to know or want to explain.
As my friend in England had it two months before he wore it and noticed the fault, the initial warranty expired and the two year warranty has a clause in it to say if the watch hasn't been worn for an extended period of time then the warranty could be invalid. So he had to pay £200 to a Tag authorised dealer to have it fixed in England. It runs fine now and looks beautiful, but after all the hassle I would only buy from a registered dealer again when spending this sort of money.
