Not bad, but not great either...
I got one of these Razor Carvr scooters for my wife, who isn't too comfortable on the 2-wheeled Razor A kick scooters that my three sons (8, 5, and 5 yrs. old) zoom around on. The three wheeled design looked appealing for a person who lacks neither ability or balance, but rather confidence.
I noted right away that this scooter isn't constructed of the high grade and lightweight aluminum that the other Razor scooters are made of. The Carvr is made of welded steel, so it is rather heavy, especially since it has a skateboard truck (also made of steel) in the back with a pretty cool friction brake. Even the steerer tube and handles are made of steel, though it looks like I could easily swap one of the aluminum steerer tubes and handles from one of the Razor A scooters to the Carvr easily. I suspect this scooter is made of steel to save on production cost, as nothing on this scooter screams out high quality.
Ride and handling are o.k., though I must point out that the 2-wheeled Razor A scooters are faster, and handle better. Since this Carvr will be used by an adult rider, I found the bushing on the rear truck too soft. I changed the smaller of the two bushings with a firmer bushing that I had handy. This made the Carvr easier to ride. If the Carver is leaned too much, the brake mechanism actually rubs on the rear wheels. Not something you would want to happen in a fast tight turn!!
I also removed the steering damper right away. I don't understand the purpose of this rubber bushing that resists turning of the steering at all.
It is a shame that this Carvr scooter will never see a modest to steep hill, so we won't be able to see if the scooter lives up to it's name for carving down hills. I suppose the fact that there are two skateboard wheels in back as opposed to one relatively thin scooter wheel would give this scooter better grip on the road to avoid sliding out when carving down relatively steep hills.
Great once steering limiter removed
Not sure why anyone would want to limit the steering on this to begin with...especially since it's actually an added metal/rubber piece that they could have saved cost on. My tip is to get an appropriate sized allen wrench as soon as received and remove 2 bolts that hold the metal/rubber limiter bolted on. Voila, now you can steer.
My daughter is 7 and loves that this has a larger non slip platform and 2 wheels in back. So much better to me as well since I've seen the neighborhood homes that have lots of razor type scoooters laying all over the street, yards. This one stays standing and folds up nicely...although it's a bit heavier than most scooters. My daughter prefers it though since it feels more stable. Nice large front wheels don't get stuck in the sidewalk cracks either.
Razor Carver-Great buy!
I purchased this for my 7 year old for Christmas. There are 2 back wheels for added balance which was perfect for her which are not on other scooters based around older kids. There is also a kick brake in the back which is a very nice feature. She loves it!
