Professor Layton and the Curious VillageProfessor Layton and the Curious Village
Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $17.46
I've done the main 120 puzzles and I just have to tackle the extras and downloadable ones now, but I can't get enough Layton. Everything about Layton is top notch and not just for a DS game, for any game. It racked the hell out of my brain and had a great story to keep everything tied together and interesting. If 2009 doesn't see Layton 2 released here I will be a very sad person.
Dead SpaceDead Space
Buy new: $18.99 / Used from: $16.00
Everything about this game is rock solid. The hudless system works so well, it's hard to play traditional games after this. - good on all systems just be sure to turn V-Sync off on the PC version
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Buy new: $27.49 / Used from: $18.50
Metal Gear? Top 3? Old Snake? Yes, and he's a bad man as Muhammad Ali once said. The story is pure fan service to MGS fans, but the game finally controls well enough for non fans to get into it
LittleBigPlanetLittleBigPlanet
Buy used from: $31.99
How can you not love this? The team at Media Molecule put together one of the best platformers in years. There's also a ton of really good levels that other people have created. Be sure to get the MGS level pack which adds a paint gun for people to put into their levels and 5 MGS themed levels
Left 4 DeadLeft 4 Dead

shooting zombies is really fun
Star Wars: The Force UnleashedStar Wars: The Force Unleashed
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $10.00
awesome Jedi powers you know I'm there. If the second half would've been less repetitive this could've been my GOTY, I may be a bit biased since I am a Star Wars nut, but this is one of the best SW games in years.
The World Ends With YouThe World Ends With You
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $12.15
Square-Enix made a new original IP that is a whole lot of fun. The combat is definitely rewarding once you figure out how to deal with both screen at the same time. This game has a fantastic setting and soundtrack
Resistance 2Resistance 2
Buy new: $56.99 / Used from: $24.39
I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but after someone let me borrow this I found I couldn't put it down. The level design kind of jumps all over the place, but when it's good, it's very good.
PataponPatapon
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $7.02
One of the best reasons to own a PSP
Fallout 3Fallout 3
Buy new: $37.99 / Used from: $19.74
There's so much to do in this game it's not even funny. The PC & 360 versions will be getting some extra DLC for the next 3 months which should be really cool
Space Invaders ExtremeSpace Invaders Extreme
Buy used from: $13.00
Space Invaders for a new generation. Flashy graphics, awesome sound, and some new gameplay mechanics make this a great game. Get it on either DS or PSP
GRIDGRID
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $16.00
One of the most enjoyable racers of '08. The team structure was a nice touch for the single player campaign
Call of Duty: World at WarCall of Duty: World at War
Buy new: $56.99 / Used from: $26.94
I was surprised at how much I liked this game. Fighting the Japanese soldiers is a thrill what with their guerilla tactics and all. Nazi Zombie mode is a blast and the multi-player is lifted straight from CoD4
DeBlobDeBlob
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $12.00
One of the best Wii games out there. It's an enjoyable platform that will leave you smiling
Boom BloxBoom Blox

So much fun in multiplayer. My mom actually woke me up and asked if I wanted to play this game
PurePure
Buy new: $27.99 / Used from: $6.99
Pure is a great arcade racer. The trick system is similar to SSX, and the game is just a blast.
Crysis WarheadCrysis Warhead
Buy new: $29.49 / Used from: $9.89
A good follow up to Crysis and it runs well on lots more PCs. It's a more linear game, but it's enjoyable running through shooting things and using your nanosuit
Burnout ParadiseBurnout Paradise
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $4.99
Criterion made this game great all year long. There's so much added content and it's all free. Between the bikes and day-night cycles that have been added Paradise City is a fun and diverse place to crash
