I'm including these because this is the system that I use in my bedroom at home. They offer great sound in a small package. They're also very good for music in addition to home theater, but they are much pricier than the other options.

Buy new: $185.89 / Used from: $149.99 For a little less money than the 890, the harmony one is a good remote. If you have to be one of those IR people and can't get on board with the RF revolution, this is a good place to be.

You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on an HDMI cable but I don't like the $2 cables either. If you're going to fish cables through a wall, it's probably worth a few extra dollars to make sure they'll work once you're done.
