Cecil Medicine: Expert Consult - Online and Print (Cecil Textbook of Medicine)Cecil Medicine: Expert Consult - Online and Print (Cecil Textbook of Medicine)
Buy new: $109.16 / Used from: $94.90
Slightly better than Harrison's, and definitely better than Kumar and Clarke (which I dislike).
Respiratory Physiology: The Essentials (Respiratory Physiology: The Essentials (West))Respiratory Physiology: The Essentials (Respiratory Physiology: The Essentials (West)) by John B West
Buy used from: $2.64
Teaches me everything I need to know about the topic, including the pesky perfusion ventilation ratio.
Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, Seventh EditionRobbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, Seventh Edition by Vinay Kumar
Buy used from: $39.99
If you ask a good pathologist, they'd recommend you this book. In my opinion, it's about a million times better than its Rubin counterpart.
Neuroanatomy Through Clinical Cases **ISBN: 9780878930609**Neuroanatomy Through Clinical Cases **ISBN: 9780878930609** by Hal Blumenfeld
Buy used from: $83.88
There are more academic books on the topic, but in my opinion, this book covers more than adequately all the neuroanatomy you need to know short of neuroanatomy training.
Atlas of Human Anatomy: With Netteranatomy.com (Netter Basic Science)Atlas of Human Anatomy: With Netteranatomy.com (Netter Basic Science) by Frank H. Netter MD
Buy new: $64.75 / Used from: $55.57
We had an orthopedic surgeon lecturer for a while, and he said that the limbs were out of proportion in this book and recommended Thieme instead. Well, this book suits me just fine. Thieme is probably better but you know, I don't really want to buy several books (Thieme comes in different parts of the body).
Histology: A Text and Atlas: With Correlated Cell and Molecular Biology (Histology (Ross))Histology: A Text and Atlas: With Correlated Cell and Molecular Biology (Histology (Ross)) by Michael H Ross
Buy new: $55.75 / Used from: $29.90
Great book. Not succinct though, and so it may take a while to plow through. In my mind, having some molecular biology in a textbook is useful, but frankly there are better books to learn the physiology and biology from.
Wheater's Functional Histology: A Text and Colour Atlas, 5th EditionWheater's Functional Histology: A Text and Colour Atlas, 5th Edition by Barbara Young BSc Med Sci(Hons) PhD MB BChir MRCP FRCPA
Buy new: $60.14 / Used from: $39.00
Much more succinct than Ross. The text is really brief, and I use it as pretty much an atlas, albeit the text is occasionally useful. I like it though.
Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Sixth Edition: Softcover North American EditionClinically Oriented Anatomy, Sixth Edition: Softcover North American Edition by Keith L Moore
Buy new: $72.21 / Used from: $59.89
Fantastic book. The blue box clinical correlations are fantastic! It is EXTREMELY deficit however in neuroanatomy, that's why I have a separate book for that. I found it the most useful book for learning general anatomy. Muscoloskeletal system is covered well.
Pathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty, 4th EditionPathophysiology of Heart Disease: A Collaborative Project of Medical Students and Faculty, 4th Edition
Buy new: $31.16 / Used from: $17.90
Love it. It's by far the best heart physiology textbook around.
Student Laboratory Manual to accompany Mosby's Guide to Physical Examination, Sixth EditionStudent Laboratory Manual to accompany Mosby's Guide to Physical Examination, Sixth Edition by Henry M. Seidel MD
Buy new: $24.78 / Used from: $18.91
Useful in testing your knowledge. Made me think and read up on a few topics I other wised would've missed. It's good for knowing impressive tidbits of information that wouldn't know until you become a physician.
