These didn't work for me.
These swim shorts have a spandex lining designed to smooth out belly and butt fat. The problem for me was that although my stomach got pushed in, the fat just got pushed up above my waist, which created extra bulk that was clearly visible under my bathing suit top. Basically, it solved one problem but created another. Also, I didn't like the stretchy silky nylon(ish) knit outer fabric. I opted instead for swim shorts without the "girdle" lining that were made of a nice non-clinging woven quick drying fabric.

sexy swim bottoms yet functional
I am a busy mom, and I have a little more on the thighs and rear than I would like at this time. This shorts had a slight skirty appearance yet hung so much more flattering than the skirts or short boy shorts they have in the stores. It was modest and made my thighs look slimmer than the skirts and allowed me to be active with my children without embarrassing mishaps. Totally worth every penny. I wish they had more colors!
