Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Fred Davis, former editor-in-chief of MacUser, and now a contributor to Windows Magazine, is definitely a Windows 95 enthusiast, praising the improvement over its predecessor Windows 3.1. He has written a well-organized guide to Microsoft's benchmark PC software. With clear layout, easy-to-follow typography, and graphics reproducing on the page the images that pop up on the computer screen, the text is readily accessible. Useful sidebars also offer the more proficient user "Insider Tips," "Upgrade Alerts," and warnings about "Danger Zones." A comprehensive guide.

Customer Reviews

Disappointing2
"The Windows 95 Bible" is the Windows 95 version of "The Windows 3.1 Bible", an excellent book written by Fred Davis. Prepare to be disappointed though. The book is not of the same standard as the 3.1 version. It compares itself to most of the other Windows 95 books available by saying that it was written "after" the release of the operating system, whereas the others were written "before". This claim makes the book sound like an interesting and (probably) better buy, being the experience of someone who has actually used the shrink-wrapped version, but beware....it's not. As a Windows 95 user of only 2 months, the book did not tell me "anything" I did not already know, and if fact did not tell me some of the things I "did" know: for example, Mr Davis deals with the "Recycle Bin" and tells the reader that to restore a deleted file involves opening the bin and dragging the file back to it's original location. He makes no mention of the much easier method of right-clicking on the file and selecting the "restore" option which appears in the menu! If you are a Windows 95 newcomer (and I mean NEWcomer), this book may help you. However, if you know your way around Windows 95, there are "many" other better titles available.
