Wonderful book!
This has been a wonderful addition to our family traditions. Each night (or when we aren't too busy), we sit down and read from this book. It only takes minutes, but sparks great conversation. Wonderful! Would recommend to anyone, any age.
Excellent Devotion Book for Young Grade Schoolers
This book has been wonderful with my 6 and 8 year old children. The Bible readings are short and the questions stress applying the concepts to your life. Each week contains five short readings, commentary and questions built around a theme, like God Keeps His Promises. At the end of the week are suggestions for simple activities to reinforce the learning. They do not necessarily correspond to a particular day's reading, but many do. My children find the activities the highlight of the book and Mom (who is NOT crafty) doesn't mind them because they are simple. They do not require a lot of materials or prep time. For example, we have used play dough or cookie dough to cut out star and moon shapes after reading about creation; we played hide and seek after reading about an Old Testament character who tried to hide from God; we painted rainbows, decorated old shoe boxes, and played other simple games. Overall this book is easy to stick with and provides valuable learning.
grow in your walk with God
I am 9 going on 10. I am giving Day by Day Devotions 4 stars, because I have not read all of it yet. What I have read is EXCELLENT! I would recommend that you first read Day by Day Kid's Bible: The Bible for Young Readers (Tyndale Kids) by the same author. The Day by Day Kid's Bible is divided into one year of daily readings that take about 7 minutes each. The Day by Day Kid's Bible shows you God's plan for people from Genesis to Revelation. Day by Day Devotions brings you back to the Day by Day Kid's Bible and gives you time to focus on specific stories and passages of Scripture so that you can apply it to your own life. Day by Day Devotions is divided into 5 readings a week for 52 weeks. The readings are not too long and they include really good questions to think about. I would also highly recommend starting with The Beginner's Bible: Timeless Children's Stories. My mom read the Beginner's Bible to me when I was too young to read, and I read it by myself when I was 7 and 8 years old. Karyn Henley makes the stories interesting for kids! These books are good to read, because they help you grow in your walk with God.
