Fun for winter walks5
This is the second Winter Weed Finder that I bought. My first one was chewed up by a puppy and I really missed not having it.
I love these "finder" books, they are just the right size to grab and stuff in a pocket or hip pack before a nature hike or even a walk in an untamed yard or around the block.
The illustrations and keys make it easy to identify, I didn't count them out but it identifies between aprox 350-400 plants, giving both their common names and their Latin names making it easy to continue research on nature once you get back from your hike.
The only set back would be for people hiking in areas out side north and eastern US south to NC,KY and parts of Canada near by, even though I have seen many of these plants in most of USA and grasses and sedges are not included. I also bought the Field guide to the grasses, sedges and rushes of the United States by Edward Knobel, which is also a small book but too big to fit in a pocket. I think a collection of these finder books would be a great gift for any nature lover and even easy enough for a beginner or older children to learn from.

Great pocket guide4
This is a quick and dirty field guide. It's good for what it is. It simply covers common winter weeds. Its a great beginner book, or pocket guide. Don't expect a telephone book with hundreds of color photos. It's a good guide for the price.
