Mr. Funky features 30 projects including stuffed animals (amirgurumi) and wearable accessories such as scarves, hats, crochet flowers, headbands, a water bottle carrier, fun kids stuff and more. Readers who love Hello Kitty, bohemian 70's inspired fashion, and Japanese style will love these supercute projects. Super Wonderful Indeed5
This is a really cute, fun book. It's half amigurumi patterns, and half wearables like hats, scarves, etc. I just finished making a water bottle holder from one of the patterns in the book, and the pattern was very easy to follow, and the item came out well.

I would recommend this book to any crocheter, even a beginner.

Not quite what I expected3
After looking at the cover I really expected a lot of amigurumi patterns, but what you really get are a few basic amigurumi patterns of typical amigurumi animals that you can find elsewhere: bear, rabbit, cat, monkey and elephant and there's a whole part dedicated to accesories: scarves, hats, mittens. So if what you really want is to enlarge your collection of amigurumi patterns this is not the right book for you!

great charts and fun projects4
I agree with other reviewers who say they wish this book included more amigurumi patterns, but I don't consider that a major flaw; the ones that are provided make great taking-off points for adapting.

For me, what makes this book great is all the charts. I have a really hard time visualizing a project from written instructions. I have to read through written instructions slowly and really concentrate to get an idea of what the project entails. With charts, I can tell at a quick glance what different stitches are used, and get a good idea of the difficulty level. Charts are not so essential for projects using only single crochet, but for doing things involving single, double and triple crochet, like flowers, charts make the explanation so much clearer. It's too bad such charts don't seem to be very popular...

It's important to point out, for people like me who are drawn to crochet because of amigurumi and therefore may not have much experience with crochet, this book does assume that you already know how to crochet; it doesn't spend any time teaching you how to do the various stitches.
