Winter GamesWinter Games by John Lacombe
Buy new: $14.52 / Used from: $3.81
This book is a suspenseful page-turner. See it's reviews for similar feelings to my own. Plus, it takes place in the cold of winter, which makes it particularly appropriate for Winter Vacation. :)
Winter PreyWinter Prey by John Sandford
Buy used from: $0.01
If you enjoy John Sandford's Prey series, then this is your one for the holiday break!
Chicago BluesChicago Blues
Buy new: $12.44 / Used from: $3.17
This is a great collection of mystery/thriller/suspense crime stories set in Chicago. Whether or not they feature the holidays, many feature the coldness of Chicago in winter and make great reads to curl up to.
This Year It Will Be DifferentThis Year It Will Be Different by Maeve Binchy
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
This isn't my favorite Maeve Binchy collection, but it is a nice compilation of Christmas stories, especially for women looking for short stories regarding the lives of families and friends over the holidays. Plus, short stories are an easy read.
Holidays on Ice: StoriesHolidays on Ice: Stories by David Sedaris
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $2.44
Similar to my Maeve Binchy comments, this isn't David Sedaris's BEST book, but his story about working as a Christmas elf alone makes the book worth the buy. It's HILARIOUS, and made for holiday reading. Plus, it's a shorter, smaller book than his others, which makes it easier to carry on a trip and finish over the holidays.
Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, ChelseaAre You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $7.91
This may not be a winter-themed book, but sometimes when it's cold and dark, you just need a good laugh! Chelsea Handler will give it to you every time.
Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share (Martha Stewart Living Magazine)Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share (Martha Stewart Living Magazine) by Martha Stewart Living Magazine
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $12.00
It's holiday time- what says it more than baking, giving, and eating cookies? I love Martha's recipes. Some of my best cookies come from her.
The Feast of Love (Vintage Contemporaries)The Feast of Love (Vintage Contemporaries) by Charles Baxter
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $0.05
This is one of my favorite novels, and hence appears on multiple lists, but it's heartwarming and full of love of all kinds, which is just what's needed in the dead of winter.
The Polar Express Twentieth Anniversary EditionThe Polar Express Twentieth Anniversary Edition by Chris Van Allsburg
Buy new: $23.10 / Used from: $18.69
Yes, this is a children's book, but it's one for all ages. The illustrations and the story are beautiful.
The Jolly Christmas PostmanThe Jolly Christmas Postman by Allan Ahlberg
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $4.49
I was about ten when the first Jolly Postman book came out. I loved it- it was creative, funny, and fun because it was so hands-on (envelopes with letters, pamphlets or cards to pull out). The Jolly Christmas Postman is a fun version for the holidays. Great for kids.
