One of my favorite resources. Reading this, parents who are already parenting a child who has experienced trauma prior to adoption will think "Yes...I am not the only one experiencing these difficulties."

I liked this book, although it is a little outdated now in how the adoption process is portrayed. I like that several 'case studies' are presented and give readers an idea of what daily life might be like during the adjustment period.

Some of the case studies in this book will frighten prospective parents considering older child adoption. That is a good thing. People need to really understand the potential challenges they may face in adopting an older child. Good explanations of the impact of trauma on the child's emotional and overall development.

Many families who have adopted older children swear by the Love and Logic books and techniques. The concepts of using empathy rather than anger and making enforceable statements were key ones that helped me in our adjustment.
