Amazon.com Review
Inspired by 19th-century botanical illustrations, Portmeirion Botanic Garden dinnerware features a lush array of hand-painted blossoms. The pieces are perfect for a mix-and-match sensibility and suitable for year-round dining. Made in Britain from high-quality porcelain, they are safe in the oven, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher.
Executed with incredible detail, these Botanic Garden dinner plates display the pattern’s floral images in graceful variation. Each piece features a different central illustration of a flower surrounded by butterflies on the wing. The vibrant drawings are labeled with the flowers' Latin and common names and bordered with a wreath of laurel leaves on the slanted rim. The set includes six plates in all, featuring a clematis, a peony, a lily, a Christmas rose, a magnolia, and an azalea. Each plate measures 10-1/2 inches in diameter. --Emily Bedard

From a California girl
I have been collecting many different pieces of Portmeirion Botanic Garden since my wedding in 1991. Lots of the pieces were given to me as wedding gifts, and I continue to add to my collection. It is by far my favorite pattern and continues to be used daily. My fine china is still sitting unused! I love to use these dishes year round, especially during the holidays. I have had the dinner plates for at least 5 years and not a single one is chipped. All pieces are extremely durable and are dishwasher and microwave safe. I regularly use my Botanic Garden baking dishes and covered casserole in the oven and on the table. The timeless design blends so well with all of my placemats, linens, other serving pieces and glassware. I use a little fruit bowl each morning for cereal and I always feel happy. I don't think I will ever get tired of this pattern.
Portmeiron Plates, nice service
First shipment came within the specified time line, but the box was crushed and one plate was broken. Within minutes of my phone call to Amazon (even in the late evening) I had an RMA and printed out the packing slip the next day. They had already shipped the replacement order before I got the damaged goods in the mail at no charge to me (other than the gas to stop at UPS). New shipment arrived in a week. 4 Stars because they did not change the packing materials like I had suggested. Overall, nice service, nice plates.
A beautiful range of crockery.
The other fact is it is becoming very collectable and sort after. The origanl designer is now a very elderly lady and though it seems callous to say, it will doubtless go up in value once she is no longer with us. She is the daughter of an architect, her father designed a whole rather wacky village in Wales, named Portmerrion. If you have ever seen the 60's British, TV series, "The Prisoner", with Patrick Magooan; then you have seen the village! The series was entirely filmed in Portmerrion. Suffice to say the crockery is a homage to the designers Father and his work, it is made in Stoke on Trent England. There Factory shop is worth a visit if you can as is the Museum. Stoke on Trent is close to Derby in the Midlands.
