Amazon.com Product Description
Ideal for both post-mowing maintenance edging along hard surfaces like pavement, and trimming grass in hard-to-reach areas, this easy-to-handle automatic feed string trimmer from Black & Decker cuts a 13-inch path and has a 180-degree rotating head for simple conversion to edging work. A 4.4 Amp motor spins the line at a speed of 10,000 RPM and gives the ST7700 the power it needs to tackle overgrown grass and weeds. And thanks to the Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) design, there's no bumping as the cutting string automatically advances; additionally, a built-in auxiliary handle helps minimizes wrist fatigue for longterm use. There's even a convenient cord retention system to guard against unintended unplugging of the tool while you're working.

The Black and Decker automatic feed string trimmer and edger is a powerful yet lightweight tool perfect for trimming heavy weeds, grasses, and overgrowth. The Groom 'N' Edge head rotates 180 degrees to convert the trimmer to an edger and vice versa in a matter of seconds. Used as an edger, the edge guide assists with edging along sidewalks and driveways. This 13-inch automatic feed sting trimmer and edger gives you a 13-inch cutting path and features the exclusive Black and Decker Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system that automatically advances the cutting string without bumping; centrifugal force feeds the line as needed. The built-in auxiliary handle provides maximum comfort and control, and the cord retention system prevents accidental cord disconnection for continuous trimming. The powerful 4.4 Amp motor spinning the line at 10,000 rpm works as a powerful tool for trimming heavy weeds and grass. Weighing in at a mere 5 pounds, this a feather-light string trimmer allowing for less fatigue and more control. This product backed by a 2-year full warranty.

Customer Reviews

lasted less than 1 year - always a problem1
I purchased this trimmer last year. It has already died, but I was so frustrated with it, that's OK. (if interested, you can see my 3-star review right after purchase)

The automatic feed never worked right: I had to continuously unplug the thing and advance the line: the auto feed depends on a sprocket system that allows the spool to advance: but as soon as dust gets inside (which happens immediately), the sprocket binds up, and the line does not feed out.

Also the black guard that protects the user from debris getting kicked back is fastened with one small screw in soft plastic: the vibrations caused by normal usage caused this screw to strip out in the second use. Getting the item back to B&D for warranty repair would have cost me more than a new unit, so I did my own repair last year. The construction seems rally cheap and therefore potentially unsafe to me.

This trimmer has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. It's better to use a less-polluting electric trimmer (not gas powered), but this one is not well made.

Automatic feed was Always feed1
We got this thing right after it came out. It wasn't and automatic feed so much as it was an always feed. It basically just always fed out line, using it up quickly. It ended up being cheaper to buy a new weed eater (not this brand or with that feature) than it was to keep buying line. About the only positive was the service from the company. They'd send replacement parts to us when we asked at least for the first year.
There was a small plastic piece which controls the feed of the line. It was constantly wearing down and melting. This just didn't work. The replacements had a piece of metal on it to try and help, but it didn't really do much.

Definitely not a grasshog1
Horrible product. Almost caught fire from burned out motor on first useage. It started smoking after six minutes of light use. Do not buy. Buy one of the Black & Decker grasshog models instead. They need to recall this thing before someone gets injured.
