A must read for all preschool and kindergarten teachers5
Barbara Backer's new book, "The Weekly Curriculum" is one of the best resources for preschool and kindergarten teachers to be published in a long time. Barbara provides easy to follow lessons that can be implemented throughout the school year. One of my favorites is her "Special Days and Holidays" section. Instead of rehashing the standard holidays that have been written about over and over, Barbara introduces new days such as "National Pretzel Month" and "Mitten Tree Day", with a large variety of activities to reinforce the theme and stimulate the creative imagination of the children. As a kindergarten teacher with with 25 years of experience, I have found in Barbara's book many, many, ideas that I can introduce to the children in my class this year. This is a book that should become a classic on the preschool and kindergarten teacher's bookshelf.

Great for preschool at home!5
I have an almost 3 year old and I just wanted a book to give us some structure for a little "schooling" at home. It's great because it obviously gives you a theme for the week and then a few activities. Kids love routine and repetition and this is great. Every morning while my younger son is napping we do 1-2 activities out of the book for the week. He loves that he's learning about the same things all week. No matter what we are doing I try to incorporate the theme. I also go to the library weekly and get books (that are recommended in the book) that corespond with the theme. It's exactly what I was looking for.

How Is this Weekly?3
The Weekly Curriculum book by Barbara Backer has many interesting ideas but I cannot see how it is weekly! I go to look up the month of November and find "Third Week in November" as the first theme in November. That is the entire chapter for November. I don't know about the rest of you, but my school attends November for four entire weeks, not just the third one! There are 52 themes in there but they are not in any order at all.
My other books go like this "First week in Sept", "Second week in Sept", etc.
I'm returning it.
