Don't waste your money on Dreft- it's very expensive, and has a fragrance anyways. Get dye and fragrance-free detergents like All Free & Clear.

Don't get a "health care kit". Most of the stuff in it is junk. Get individual items that are good quality instead- nail scissors and/or emery board, Vicks rapid read thermometer. You don't need the liquid measuring devices. You'll get a good comb and aspirator from the hospital.

I wanted this to work so badly! It did not affect the fact that our baby didn't want to sleep.

I've breastfed several times a day for 11 months, and never found this pillow more useful than as an armrest. It's designed with the pretext that you will be sitting straight up when you breastfeed. Believe me, leaning back in a comfortable armchair feels much better.

This broke immediately and I had to return it.

The function of mobiles is questionable. Maybe they help some babies go to sleep, but not mine. They just gave him something else to look at and stay awake for. I found that less stimulation in the crib was better. You can, however, use them over the changing table.

Don't get a bunch of plain-looking plush toys, they are extremely boring to a baby, except for the tag. Get taggies if you insist on plush toys. Otherwise get things that crinkle, squish, shine, rattle, have moving parts, bright colors etc. You might think they're an eyesore, but you'll thank me later.

While these are cute, they don't work for a newborn (startle reflex, you need to swaddle!), and sleepers are more affordable later on.

There are a lot of cute night lights out there, but don't get one that plugs directly into the wall, unless the socket is high up. As soon as your baby can crawl, she will go straight to the night light and rip it out every time. Get a night light that sits on a table instead.
