Dreft Liquid Detergent, 64 Load Bottle (Pack of 2)Dreft Liquid Detergent, 64 Load Bottle (Pack of 2)
Buy new: $129.99
Don't waste your money on Dreft- it's very expensive, and has a fragrance anyways. Get dye and fragrance-free detergents like All Free & Clear.
The First Years Night&Day Bottle Warmer SystemThe First Years Night&Day Bottle Warmer System
Buy new: $29.88
This never seemed to work right- either the bottle was too hot or too cold. Better to just heat the bottle in a pan of hot water on the stovetop. Or get baby used to drinking cold liquid- she'll need to if you go out anyways!
American Red Cross 17-pc. Health and Grooming KitAmerican Red Cross 17-pc. Health and Grooming Kit
Buy new: $14.01
Don't get a "health care kit". Most of the stuff in it is junk. Get individual items that are good quality instead- nail scissors and/or emery board, Vicks rapid read thermometer. You don't need the liquid measuring devices. You'll get a good comb and aspirator from the hospital.
Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes WarmerPrince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer
Buy new: $21.51
Don't get a wipes warmer, it's stupid. Believe it or not, your baby doesn't care if the wipes are room temperature. Personally, I think cool wipes would feel good on a rash.
The First Years - Air-Flow Back SleeperThe First Years - Air-Flow Back Sleeper
Buy new: $11.98
I wanted this to work so badly! It did not affect the fact that our baby didn't want to sleep.
Basic Comfort Supreme Sleep PositionerBasic Comfort Supreme Sleep Positioner
Buy new: $41.15
This worked for a whole two weeks before my son could wiggle off of it. I think it's unsafe; wish it had a seatbelt.
Boppy Bare Naked Expandable Miracle Middle PillowBoppy Bare Naked Expandable Miracle Middle Pillow
Buy new: $29.99
I've breastfed several times a day for 11 months, and never found this pillow more useful than as an armrest. It's designed with the pretext that you will be sitting straight up when you breastfeed. Believe me, leaning back in a comfortable armchair feels much better.
Basic Comfort Ultra Plush Change Pad Cover - SageBasic Comfort Ultra Plush Change Pad Cover - Sage
Buy new: $15.00
I thought these were so nice and soft! My son peed on them every day, until I gave up and just used the wipeable changing pad surface instead.
The First Years Gentle Vibrations 3-in-1 Crib SootherThe First Years Gentle Vibrations 3-in-1 Crib Soother
Buy new: $25.00
This broke immediately and I had to return it.
Fisher-Price Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Waterfall SootherFisher-Price Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Waterfall Soother
Buy new: $35.00
This seemed to just prolong the time until my son actually went to sleep. If you want to soothe your baby before bedtime, start a routine like bath, new diaper and jammies, storytime, nursing, bed. Don't bother with crap that clutters up the crib.
Learning Curve Dreams in Sight MobileLearning Curve Dreams in Sight Mobile
Buy new: $47.95
The function of mobiles is questionable. Maybe they help some babies go to sleep, but not mine. They just gave him something else to look at and stay awake for. I found that less stimulation in the crib was better. You can, however, use them over the changing table.
Kiddopotamus Tinydiner Placemat, GreenKiddopotamus Tinydiner Placemat, Green
Buy new: $10.99
This is awkward and bulky. I'd just wipe the table down with baby wipes instead.
BASHFULLY - lambBASHFULLY - lamb
Buy new: $19.99
Don't get a bunch of plain-looking plush toys, they are extremely boring to a baby, except for the tag. Get taggies if you insist on plush toys. Otherwise get things that crinkle, squish, shine, rattle, have moving parts, bright colors etc. You might think they're an eyesore, but you'll thank me later.
Inglesina Swift Stroller Rain Cover AccessoryInglesina Swift Stroller Rain Cover Accessory
Buy new: $27.99
Are you really going to take your baby for a stroll in the rain? I don't think so.
Halo SleepSack Wearable Blanket - BlueHalo SleepSack Wearable Blanket - Blue
Buy new: $15.70 - $29.99
While these are cute, they don't work for a newborn (startle reflex, you need to swaddle!), and sleepers are more affordable later on.
Sunbeam 2-Quart Food MillSunbeam 2-Quart Food Mill
Buy new: $27.99
I thought I needed a food mill to make baby food, then when I used one I realized that so much of my precious steamed fruit and veggies got lost in the mill. Just use a blender and a little water to make purees, it saves money, time, and frustration.
NoJo Jungle Babies Night LightNoJo Jungle Babies Night Light
Buy new: $12.99
There are a lot of cute night lights out there, but don't get one that plugs directly into the wall, unless the socket is high up. As soon as your baby can crawl, she will go straight to the night light and rip it out every time. Get a night light that sits on a table instead.
