This entire series is fantastic. By setting it in a culture (Catholics in a Mormon town at the turn of the centur) it awakened my love of older times and curious things like "inventions" (the watercloset) is featured in one of the early books.

I think this was my favorite book. I loved Sara Crewe, her fancies. I learned so much about the French Revolution from this book! Fantastic.

This is a small series. I loved all the boy scientist books. I loved their invention and independence.

My teacher read this to us a loud and everyone in my class loved Judy Blume after that. We loved Peter and Fudge. Perfect book!

More childish books in comparison to the other books on this list, but I would take the pictures from this book, frame them and hang them in a child's room. Who doesn't want to run away and build their own house with ropes and pans and contraptions???

probably around 6th grade, animal books became huge favorites for me and I went on animal memoir tear.

Forget the movie, this book is so much better. Definitely one of my favorites, up there with Little House on The Prairie. I learned so much from this book.

The ultimate horse loving child fantasy series. I adored these books and the robust, muscular horses on the front cover.

Another great book to learn about living far, far away. The scenes of domestic life and the simple pleasures of the Siberian life are universal.

Since the movie, I think everyone has fallen in love with this book again. I also love his other books and poetry. It's so irreverant.

Every child goes through an age when she/he loves series books. I read so many series books, but my favorites were Cherry Ames. I never did become a nurse, but I loved her WWII nurse stories, her visiting nurse story and being her trials as a student nurse. It satisfied my childish love of history as well as my enjoyment of series books.

and Ben and Me and Johnny Tremain are wonderful colonial American adventure stories.

Oh, this book had every element that I loved. It was based on a true event (island of Krakatoa volcano) had the elements of creating your own world, just the way you liked, everything was splendid. And they were castaways. A marvelous book.

I love how this family made everything fun. This was a series set at the turn of the century, which was when my grandmother was growing up, pre-world war I.
