“I never thought a book written by a man could give me such an eye-opening picture of who I should be as a woman.”
—Shaunti Feldhahn, bestselling author of For Women Only
“Women today have unprecedented opportunities and possibilities before them, but this great new freedom also brings a new dilemma: how to make the best choices for their own good and that of their families. In The New Eve, Robert Lewis gives women of all ages a picture of what God intended for us from the beginning and a clear vision for how we make choices that liberate us to live with purposeful direction. No matter your stage in life, all women can benefit from his coaching. I highly recommend it.” ??
— Barbara Rainey, co-founder of FamilyLife
“Robert Lewis sounds a much-needed message as he calls women to walk in the feminine freedom and fullness that result from embracing our core biblical callings. The New Eve dispels the current cultural fog regarding what it means to be a woman, by looking to God's design as revealed in the Scripture, for wisdom, insight, and direction."
— Nancy Leigh DeMoss, author and host of Revive Our Hearts radio

Writer did not get to the "core" of what God intends for women
I have read many books that help women discover God's purpose for their lives...several that I read and reread and underlined...and journaled about...always learning more and more. They brought about real understanding, instilled courage and brought me closer to the heart of God.
The New Eve, however, is not such a book. I would not recommend it. The author failed to strike a cord with me as he did not appear to really understand the true core of a woman's heart. Instead, he relies on artificial stereotypes and simplistic diagrams that fail to describe the hearts and lives of the many women I have known.
Robert Lewis bases much of the book on three core callings of all women: 1) to seek deep, lasting companionship with a man; 2)to raise up and launch healthy, godly children into the world and 3) to advance God's kingdom on earth in ways specific to your gifting. It troubles me that #1 is not "to seek a deep, lasting, intimate relationship with God. When that becomes our core calling, God in turn reveals an intensely mysterious and wonderfully rich purpose and path which is unique for each and every woman...whether we will be single or married, whether we will bear, adopt, foster children or live for Him in another way. There is an example given of the token woman who does not marry or have children; she is portrayed as a courageous woman who is able to make good of her situation. She will ask God why he did not give her #1 and #2 core callings when she gets to heaven.
Much of the book seems to be written from a 1950s view of ideal womanhood with patches of "modern day" roles sewn on top to attempt to make it more contemporary and palatable.
This very simplistic and flawed approach fails to recognize the immense love, strength and creativity of God and how he unleashes them in the life of a woman who seeks Him first. I think women want to know how to seek God, how to deal with the weaknesses, fears and struggles that were unleashed in Genesis and to be truly able to fully become who God desires them to be.
The entire Bible is rich with such great wisdom for women...There was not much guiding the reader to dig deep into every corner of the Bible. Instead there were the diagrams and generalizations that seemed to fall short of what I would want my friend, daughter or any woman reading this review to have as a guide.
At last, true wisdom for working women!
For years, I've been struggling with the work/family balance issue, trying to understand God's plan for my life. Making critical career choices or family decisions without a biblical framework can be scary and unsettling. In The New Eve, Robert Lewis provides the clarity and practical tools for seizing opportunities without compromising my role as a wife and a mother. A very encouraging, liberating book I can highly recommend.
Womanhood from a Biblical Perspective
The New Eve is a book that examines womanhood from a Biblical perspective like none other I have read. The five point definition of womanhood gives a clear goal for women today and how they should view their world and the world around them. The chapters on the seasons of a woman's life gives you ways to stategically examine how you are living as you move from season to season. In today's world, as women, we are bombarded with views on how we should live our lives. Robert Lewis gives us an instruction manual based on God's plan for us, combined with a sound Biblical perspective, so that we are making choices based on our core callings, not the societal norm. I recommend this book for women from 12 to 102!
