Customer Reviews
Great
I have mild interstitial cystitis, and I've had a lot of success in managing my IC with prelief. I generally only take it with acidic food or when I feel that symptoms might occur. I take it a lot during flares, which takes the edge off the symptoms. It's not a cure-all, and it won't necessarily allow people to eat all the acidic foods they want. For example, I will not drink a latte even if I take prelief, because I'm very sensitive to coffee. However, I can drink juice or tea, or even beer without problems. Prelief helps me with my symptoms, and it also acts as a calcium supplement. Win-win for me.
I know that some people have problems with digesting the calcium, especially on an empty stomach. I would advise people to go slow when starting to take these, and definitely do not use this as an excuse to start eating all those bad acidic foods.
Works great but don't put all your eggs in one basket
I have chronic bladder inflammation (aka Interstitial Cystitis) and I take prelief before I eat something I'm not supposed to. Prelief neutralizes the acidity of the food or drink as much as it can but what it comes down to is- if you're going to eat something that gives you a flare-up, you'll still get a flare-up whether you take prelief or not. It might not be as bad or last as long, but you'll still get one. So its really helpful to me when I eat the "in between" foods that aren't coffee but aren't quite pear either.
Use With Caution
As a sufferer of Interstitial Cystitis, I was excited to try out Prelief since I've had to drastically change my diet to avoid more acidic foods. I followed the instructions on the bottle suggesting that Prelief be taken 3 times a day every day as opposed to only when acidic food is eaten. I took 2 tablets 3 times a day and within 24 hours I had a full-blown IC flareup on my hands which took a couple weeks to get under control, which included a doctor's visit, lab tests, and prescriptions. I haven't taken Prelief since, and am open to possibly taking it when I eat acidic foods, but nothing would induce me to take it regularly again. My doctor thought that perhaps it had made my bladder too alkaline too fast and upsetting its delicate balance is what caused a flareup. I am giving Prelief 2 stars because of the experience I had, but I am not discounting the possibility that I might be able to use it successfully in the future.
