Amazon.com Product Description
Fueled by light, the Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Exclusive Chronograph Strap Watch runs on advanced Eco-Drive technology, so it marks time without requiring a battery. Featuring sporty, stainless steel accents, this classic timepiece garners attention with a deep black dial that's protected by a fine mineral crystal. The spherical watch face is sharply contrasted by crisp, luminescent white Roman hourly indexes at the three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock positions, which are interspersed with stick hourly markers and bordered by second markers. The eye-catching inner dial features three luminescent subdials alongside an an easy-to-read date window, which is perched at four o'clock. A durable stainless steel bezel and case house the dial and connect to a rugged black canvas band that easily fastens with a buckle clasp. Water resistance to 660 feet (200 meters) and Japanese-quartz movement let you stay active without removing this handsome, cutting-edge watch. Charge it by sunlight, flourescent light, or regular incandescent light for a reliable, long-lasting charge. This timepiece is sold exclusively on Amazon.com and includes a Citizen Eco-Drive box for elegant presentation.
Note: If placed in an unlit area while fully charged, the Eco-Drive watch will run anywhere from 45 days to five years, depending on the model.
The Citizen Watch Brand
The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.
During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.
Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of "world’s firsts" is unmatched.
More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.
Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions (See the full Citizen Eco-Drive FAQ here)
How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light?
In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time).
How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged?
If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run for from 45 days to 5 years.
How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged?
Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest is in direct bright sunlight (not windowsill) and never on the dashboard of a car.
Customer Reviews
Very Pleased!
I've had this watch for about a week. Thus far, I am very pleased with it. The watch looks great and is easy to read. The hands glow brightly in the dark, and looks just as good wearing a suit or with jeans. I work in an office all day and the watch hasn't needed to be reset despite not getting direct sunlight very often. So it does what it claims.
The watch is bigger than I expected. But its not to large that it tacky, but I was expecting it to be a little smaller. I'm 6'3' and the canvas strap fits fine, although I've been wearing it on a notch one tighter than normal to get the band to conform to my wrist better. But is isn't too small, which I read was a problem for Citizens other canvas watch bands.
Overall, a very comforable and stylish watch. I also own an Omega Speedmaster, which is great, but this keeps better time, can be left unworn without losing time, and I don't worry about it getting banged up at all. I got a scratch on my Omega and it cost $800 to get it fixed. So I bought this to wear daily and save the Omega for important business meeting or when fine watch is stylish. I'd recommend it.
Perfect Casual Watch!
Seriously, it's the perfect casual watch! I purchased this for a casual & sharp looking watch. Very impressed. You can wear this with jeans or with a dress shirt & slacks. Classic design with large watch dial. I am 6'3" so I want a watch with a larger watch dial. Never loses charge; no battery issues what-so-ever. The canvas strap has a clean & crisp look to it. Wasn't quite sure how to interpret "canvas strap" but I dig it. Plus, it's not leather so it can get wet along with the timepiece (WR 100M). It is easy to set and also contains a chronograph if you want to time how long it takes the 22 year old community college waitress to find you a table at your local brewery. The only warning I'd issue is "watch out" for the shorter wrist strap. I have larger wrists and I'm on the third hole from the end. If you have big wrists, you might need to replace the band; replacement bands are cheap & I'd recommend this watch even if I had to replace the band.
Great tool watch but also bold and even elegant
I have a discontinued version of this watch (AT0060-05F) which differs only in that the case is titanium and the second hand is not red nor the water resistance mark on the dial. I find the 46mm case size for my 7.25" wrist to be about perfect. It is bold but not vulgar. The strap is fairly comfortable but the shape of the watch back makes it stand off your wrist a bit. This deficiency is only noticeable in relation to other very comfortable watches such as my Casio PRG90T. The face is very legible even from extreme angles. The date aperture is small however and you will not be able to just glance at it in anything but bright outdoor light. Accuracy in the month that I have owned this watch is excellent - it has lost less than 15 seconds. At night, the hands and numerals glow blue (see my photo). The crystal, although mineral, seems to be pretty scratch resistant, mine is still flawless. Finally, the watch is water resistant to 200m which adds greatly to its readiness for duty as a tool watch. Because of the detailing of this watch (chromed numeral edges, knurled crown, brushed finish) you could wear it with office casual or in other semi-formal modes without concern. I have had more compliments about this watch than another much more expensive watch that I own. Finally, the eco drive solar power means no battery changes and high reliability and availability.
