Amazon.com Product Description
Whether navigating a business deal or the rough ocean waves in your kayak, make a bold statement with the Citizen Corso BM8080-59A stainless steel men's watch. This large, round watch measures 1.5 inches in diameter and sits prominantly on your wrist. It's powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artifical light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use.
It features a polished stainless steel bezel with scalloped highlights, textured silvery blue dial background, silver dial markers, luminous stick hands (with second hand), and day/date feature at 3 o'clock. The round case is fully integrated into the rounded link bracelet band, which is joined by a push-button, fold-over clasp. Other features include Japanese quartz movement, water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet), and Citizen's 5-year warranty.
The Citizen Watch Brand
The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.
During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.
Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of "world’s firsts" is unmatched.
More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.
Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions (See the full Citizen Eco-Drive FAQ here)
How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light?
In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time).
How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged?
If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run for from 45 days to 5 years.
How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged?
Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest is in direct bright sunlight (not windowsill) and never on the dashboard of a car.
Customer Reviews
Durable, clean look, and an interesting piece of technology
I have had this watch almost 2 years no, and So far so good. Simple face without many extra dials cluttering the face. Gives an expensive look at an affordable price. The eco-drive is interesting. I charged it the first day I had it (sat it in the sun) and it should be good to go, never having to change the battery, which means never breaking the waterseal. The demise of my last few watches has been after the second or third battery changes, the seal never quite woked again. So if your in the field for a durable watch, simple classic look without clutter, and no battery changes, this watch is it.
Perfect fit
This watch is extremely versatile. It is dressy enough to wear to work, but not too fancy to wear with a pair of jeans. The silver dial matches anything you wear, and isn't cluttered with useless auxiliary functions. The watch band is stunning, though difficult to size (you may consider bringing it in to a jeweler). The icing on the cake is the watch being solar powered. You never need to change a battery, and in complete darkness it keeps perfect time for 5 years.
Nice watch in a different color
I bought this watch for my husband about a month ago. It arrived within just a few days, even with standard shipping. The Eco-drive solar power system seems to work very well. The watch keeps great time and the hands glow brightly in the dark. You really can't tell by looking at it that there are solar panels under the face, and it's really a pretty sharp looking watch. However, it's not as substantial or masculine-looking as I would have hoped, and the light blue face looks kind of strange with the silver of the wrist band, and adds to the slightly feminine look. If I were to do it over again, I would buy this watch in the dark blue or silver face color.
