Clif shot blok - a great source of carbs when you're on a long run
Clif shot bloks are an excellent way to replenish your body with some carbs if you're on a long run (> 1 hr). I tried some of the gels and I just didn't like the taste or their stickiness; clif shot bloks were the answer for me. They taste great, you eat 3 blocks of them every 40-60 minutes, and chase them with water. They kind of remind me of gummy bears - they taste just as yummy, but they are not as chewy so are easier to eat when running.

Shot Bloks are great!
The shot bloks with caffeine are amazing. I have used them for several long training runs and races. Since I eat three hours before a big race, I often take a serving 15 minutes before the start of a race. I also replenish my supply taking them 40 minutes after the start of the race to give me kick. It takes about 15 minutes to get into your bloodstream. Be sure to drink water/gatorade with them. When it's cold outside, they are a little hard to chew at first.

Of all flavors, Lemon Lime is easiest to consume while my heartrate is pounding while I am racing down a trail. Any endurance athlete should give these a try.
