Some of Barney's friends are building a sand castle, and the Purple One treats them to a magical tour of a real one. The day is full of wondrous horses, a dance around the maypole, a tea party, a meeting with the king, and a visit with Twynkle the elf. Songs in this imaginative special include "Castles So High" and "Polly Put the Kettle On." --Tom Keogh

Even my toddler loves this video!
This is my 20 month old daughters first video of Barney and she loves it. She watches it (sometimes twice a day) from beginning to end.
The story line is simple, yet entertaining and the songs are well paced throughout the video. Many songs are sung with accompaning body movements so children can dance along with Barney and his many friends. My daughters favorite songs are "Looby Loo", "Pat-A-Cake", and "The Noble King of York."
The story begins in Derek's backyard with the children wishing they could see a real live castle and king. Barney makes his appearance and takes the kids to a magical land complete with Twinkle, the elf, imaginary horses, a castle and a King whose number one wish is to go fishing for the day. Baby Bop makes a brief appearance too and joins in the fun.
This video should be part of your Barney collection. It provides an entertaining medium for learning many favorite children's songs as well as nursery rhymes. If it can keep 20 month old happy, it can keep your child happy too!
The BEST of all the Barney Tapes
As a mom of three who's seen all the Barney tapes, take my word for it, this is the best one. A parent can actually watch this one without wanting to heave! The songs are good, there is actually a plot and the kids are cute without being "too cute".
If you have a two or three year old, they'll love this tape. If you must buy one Barney video, make it this one.
Plot Synopsis
I liked this video. It is about four children building a sandcastle in Derek's backyard when Barney treats them to a visit to a real one. They go through a magical forest where they meet an elf and must do three things to cross her bridge.
Then it's to the door of the castle, which won't open until 3:00. After a dance around a maypole, they meet the king, who has them watch the castle while he goes fishing. The gang is joined by Baby Bop as they have a tea party and a concert.
I liked the music because it is songs I grew up with and they are singable.
