Great Budget AGP Card for the Money
Great card for the money. The price dropped for 7 dollars (without the rebate) a day after I bought it. Installed flawlessly on my 4 years old Dell 4600 with 2.8 GHz P4, 1 gig ram, and 250 Watts psu. It runs at full speed (AGP 8x speed on my PC). I believe it can also run on 4x if you do not have 8x on your computer. For those of you who is using a Dell with an integrated graphics card like me, make sure that you COMPLETELY delete the original graphics driver AND the driver installation files in C:/dell/drivers. I didn't delete the files in "dell/drivers" the first time I installed this new card, and the old integrated card automatically reinstalled itself after the reboot. As the result, I kept getting the blue screen of death during start ups. So I was forced to delete the drivers while I was in safe mode and start everything all over again. BTW, if you are not connecting this card to a TV, which I assume would be fairly complicated, I highly recommend you to skip the installation CD and just go download the latest Forceware driver and install that, which can be found on http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us.
This card is perfect for people with old PCs that do not have PCI-e slots and for those that want a quiet computer. As many of you can tell, the card is not really cannot be called "fast" by today's standard since the Geforce 6200 was originally designed for budget minded consumers, and it is very hard to be overclocked (it's not build for OC). The card runs completely silent because I cannot hear any additional noise in my computer which only has 1 single fan. Considering it only has a heat sink, it does not run very hot. It idles around 52 Celsius and jumps to around 73 when I play graphics intense games like Need for Speed Carbon and Fable the Lost Chapter. With this card, I am able to play NFSC on medium settings and Fable on high. Photo also renders a lot faster on Photoshop. You can always get a high quality vga fan (a lot different from the plastic ones you get on cheap video cards) online for around 10 dollars if you think your card is running a bit too hot. From what I read, people at Nvidia said you do not have to worry about it as long as the temperature of the card is below 130 (personally I do not believe it, anything above 90 is pretty bad).
Again, I believe all of you who are considering buying this card are not serious gamers. If you want to play the new games on highest settings, go with a PCI-e Geforce 8800 Ultra factory OC (DirectX 10 is the future!). If you don't have a PCI-e slot, go get a PC with the slot because there is no point of buying a fast AGP card (it's expensive and still not as fast as a PCI-e card). This card is really for people who want to upgrade their old PCs since most of the old computers do not have powerful Power Supply Units. Originally, I was going to buy a faster Geforce card but the PSU on my computer is not powerful enough to power any of the faster cards. With a minimum 250 W power supply, I believe this card can run on almost every PC made in the past 4-5 years (but seriously, other than me, who's still using a PC that's 4 years old?). It really makes a HUGE difference if you are upgrading from on-board graphics. The reason why I only give it a 4 is because every time after recover from sleep mode, the card tends to freeze up a bit while I play games. I have not been able to figure out the reason why, and it seems like a few other people also have the same problem as me. After all, I hope this card can just go a little bit faster. But for the money I paid, this really is a great card for the value.
Sorry for my bad English. This is the first review that I've ever written. It's a quite late in the night so I decide not to proofread it. Just leave me a comment if you have any questions. Thanks.
Works as expected.
I was looking for a cheap video card that would let my girlfriend play World of Warcraft on her 6 year old 1.6GHz P4. Knowing that I'll be building her a new computer soon, I just wanted to get the job done. This card fits the bill. Without any in-game tuning (using the video setting defaults) she is able to play without too much interuption or skipping. (When she gets in a city it gets pretty bad though.) The card worked right out of the box. Windows XP SP2 didn't have native drivers, and the ones on the CD were very old, but a download from NVidia's website and it was up and running quick. This model is fanless, which is nice, because there are less moving parts to fail. All in all, I got exactly what I expected for $57, and few headaches. I also like the nice small boxes video cards come in now (most software titles too), gone are the days of having to pay extra shipping or store mammoth boxes for small items.
XFX GeForce 6200 256MB Video Card
I bought this card so I could run dual monitors, I have an older 21" CRT and just bought a new Hanns G 22" TFT (I Love it, reviewed seperatly). I was a little concerned because there was another reviewer that mentioned something about power requirements and I couldn't find any information about it online. In fine print on the box it mentions a minimum 250W power supply if you have "a number of other internal devices installed" I installed it on a Dell Dimension 8250 and it was super easy, I did read the instructions, they said to uninstall the old drivers before removing and installing the new card. I did that and it booted up fine, new drivers installed easily and the dual monitors work perfectly. I don't play games so I can't comment on that aspect of it but the setup of dual monitors was fast and easy.
