Photo quality is right up there with more expensive cameras, the only things it's missing is speed on continuous, durablity, and I've heard there are problems with using the built in flash on continuous. Only one of these is irreconcilable. The kit lens is pretty cheesy. First thing to upgrade.

Buy new: $409.95 / Used from: $279.00 Excellent lens. Among the pricier of my purchases, but well worth it. IS is simply superb, focus is nice and quiet, but a little touch and go. (Seems kind of picky). Once I put this lens on my XTi, it was like a whole new camera. A definite must have for better quality pics on the cheap. Still one of the cheaper lenses out there.

Part of a solution to the durability problems with the XTi (aside from being careful with it) Fits well on the camera and still allows full use of all functions. Makes for a different feel, you must be a bit more deliberate and precise with your actions with this on. I don't bother with the lens armor that came with this. Attracts too much dust and dirt.

Buy new: $289.95 Just picked this up, I can tell a huge difference in dark environments with this over the built on. I am getting some great shots and since I can pivot the flash I don't get a glare or harsh light with every shot like I would otherwise, shooting on continuous with this on is a breeze. The 430 will do for awhile, and once I can afford the 580, the 430 can be used as a slave.
