Amazon.com Product Description
Catching fireflies--also known as lightning bugs--is a favorite nighttime summer activity for children. These magical insects and their soft, blinking auras have fascinated kids and adults for years. But instead of storing the fireflies in a jar with the top punctured to allow air, Coleman goes one step further with this Firefly Lantern.

About Coleman
The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.
Teacher Review
Entomology, the study of insects, gives us a greater understanding of nature and has far-reaching implications. Insects are used by humans, for example, for their medically valuable venom and to control agricultural pests. Parents and teachers can encourage budding entomologists with this bug-friendly home. The easy quick-slide, permanently attached lid allows even the clumsiest hands to capture an insect without having to screw on or snap a lid. As a child observes and nurtures her catch, she can research the insect's habitat, diet, life cycle, natural enemies, defenses, and so on. Teachers and parents can encourage and reinforce this invaluable hands-on, real-life approach to learning with books and Internet searches. During cooler winter months, when bugs seem to make themselves scarce, this lantern-shaped bug home makes a wonderful prop for imaginative play. This toy will foster the spirits of future campers, miners, and adventurous explorers and expand creativity, social skills, and verbal abilities in the process. --Kathryn Tracy. A must for a summer evening!
When I first thought of getting the Firefly lantern, I was skeptical that it was better than the traditional method of a jam jar with holes in the lid. Once I had the lantern, I am convinced it is better. Firstly, it allows the little critters to breath better since there is better airflow, and secondly it's easier to capture the Fireflies this way. It also looks a lot better than that old jam jar. Pick this up now even if you're an adult, or cherish the sweet summer darkness with your little ones.
Highly DISSAPOINTED!!!
We thought this was really cool because of the lantern shape, the swiveling top, and the wire mesh.Once we got it we relized it wasn't all it's cut out to be.It's great and it holds tons of fireflys... but the mesh it too wide. The bugs come out easily!I would understand if they didn't specify it for a certain insect, but it's a FIREFLY lantern.I had brought the lantern inside and I started to see them coming out one by one through the mesh.So if you just want to keep the bugs for a really short time then great, this is for you.But if your wanting to keep them in overnight, forget about it unless you want them crawling all over your house.
Our Daughter is a HUGE bug fan!
My family started camping together for the first time since our children were born this past summer. As the excitement grew for our first trip, we bought our children this Firefly Lantern. Their first night was successful catching these interesting bugs. Now there is no limit as to the type of bugs that they catch and temporarily house in the lantern. It is much more durable than any of the other containers that we have ordered with "bug kits". The bugs are easily viewed while inside. Whenever I am helping them catch their creatures, I grab this container first because it is the easiest to close! I do recommend this product.
