Rebar: Modern Food CookbookRebar: Modern Food Cookbook by Audrey Alsterburg; Wanda Urbanowicz
Buy new: $19.77 / Used from: $14.94
This is my all-time favorite cookbook. reBar is a restaurant in my hometown of Victoria, BC, and I love it. This book lets me re-create that food at home in L.A. Recipes are mostly vegetarian or vegan, and while some include quite a bit of fat, the nature of the food is healthy.

If you work, you need a slow cooker.
Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Recipes for Two: For the Small Slow CookerNot Your Mother's Slow Cooker Recipes for Two: For the Small Slow Cooker by Beth Hensperger
Buy new: $9.32 / Used from: $4.70
If you work and have only one other person who eats grown-up food in the house, this cookbook makes smaller portions. I actually prefer to have leftovers, so I use this less often.
