Product Description

No squeezing, no cranking, just a gentle shake, shake, is all it takes to sift flour for pastries and cakes. Then there's the other major complaint about sifters: they always leave flour dust in your cabinets. Not this one thanks to top and bottom plastic lids.

Editorial Reviews

From the Manufacturer
The OXO Good Grips flour sifter was designed to make sifting easier and faster, and baking that much more enjoyable. The sifter has no troublesome awkward levers to pull or cold steel handles to squeeze; instead, it features a comfortable handle that fits perfectly in your hand. With a slight shake side to side, the sifting mechanism is activated and with little effort you have perfectly sifted flour. The top and bottom lids keep flour fresh and the inside of your cupboards clean. The OXO Good Grips flour sifter is so easy to use that you'll look forward to recipes that call for sifted ingredients.

Customer Reviews

Well designed, tidy, easy to hold, but works slowly.3
This sifter works just as it claims to. Because it has caps on both the top and the bottom, it stores neatly (no floury mess all over the place). It is a bit stronger-gauge metal than you might think from the picture, so it should last. The handle is very comfortable, which is of course what OXO is famous for.

The best feature is that unlike traditional "trigger" style sifters, there is no hole in the side of the unit leaking flour while you are trying to sift. Nor is there any need to squeeze your fingers over and over, which is important if your fingers are prone to discomfort, such as from arthritis or fatigue.

The product's only weakness is pretty significant: it works slowly. If you want to sift two cups of flour, be prepared to shake it back and forth dozens and dozens of times. If you shake hard, it does sift faster, but then your hand and arm are sure to get tired.

Like a squeeze-handle sifter, it can be used one-handed, and has that handy little scraper thing at the bottom to break up lumps.

If you only sift occasionally, buy this product. If you sift many times a week, choose a product that will work faster, such as a squeeze-handle sifter or simply a wide sieve filled with flour and bumped against your other hand.

Best sifter available anywhere5
This sifter is extremely simple to use. No mess; it's easy to manage any size sifting job: just control the side-to-side motion and there is no trouble using virtually any mixing bowl. You can really shake it like crazy, or use the opposite hand to support and softly "roll" it. Shake more vigorously for speed and large quantity, short shaking strokes for smaller bowls and less ingredients...so simple, and couldn't be more versatile!

The covers are used when measuring and sifting, not primarily for storage; the top is not air-tight. Why in the world would you ever store a sifter with any flour in it anyway?! Just tap it out completely into the trash or sink to remove excess flour.

The top cover is specifically designed to stay on during sifting, keeping flour/cocoa etc from wafting out while you shake-shake-shake. The bottom cap keeps contents from falling through the mesh screen while you measure flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt, etc into the top. That way, you can move it around your workspace if you need to. Oops! Forgot that pinch of nutmeg that's supposed to sift-in with the baking powder and flour? Just walk the sifter over to the pantry and shake-in the spice!

Easy to clean, all stainless steel construction which won't rust, and it's even dishwasher safe! I put mine through a hand-wash or even the dishwasher every so often, especially after sifting cocoa or lots of aromatic spices, to remove residue that can transfer to other ingredients, and keep it sparkling new! Just remember to let all the parts thoroughly air-dry before you snap the lids back on to put it away.

I only wish OXO made an even larger "commercial"-sized Good Grips sifter for my bigger baking projects!

OXO outsmarts other designers again5
I have to say this sifter is the obvious winner even without any flour. The popular grip-trigger models get stuck every other squeeze. This one is a dream. No sticky, complicated parts to break and a very simple, easy to use shake-side-to-side design. I also love the comfortable handle and the clever caps for top and bottom to keep the flour from shaking all over the cupboard during storage. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store.
